“I don’t want more money, I don’t want better catering”: Tom Cruise’s Co-star Had a Simple Request That Will Give Us a Thrilling Moment in Mission Impossible 8

Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible film series is among the best action franchises ever. From starring some of the best actors in various roles to filming across different spectacular locations, the film series is best known for its benchmark action sequences and stunts. While the last film turned out to be a box office disappointment, despite the presence of a stellar cast, the upcoming Mission Impossible 8 promises to be an entertaining feast.
Recently, Mission Impossible star Shea Whigham got candid about shooting the upcoming film with Cruise and also revealed how the director, Christopher McQuarrie, delivered the one thing he wanted.
Shea Whigham Reveals the One Thing He Really Wanted from Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 8
Shea Whigham stars as the US Intelligence agent, Jasper Briggs, assigned to hunt down Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in the Misson Impossible franchise. Last seen in the commercially failed Mission Impossible 7, the actor will be reprising his role in the upcoming Mission Impossible 8.
Fresh off the set of the next installment, the actor has some high praise to sing for the franchise’s lead star and the director. While he applauds Cruise’s working regimen and dedication, Whigham praised director Christopher McQuarrie for how he delivered on his one request.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shea Whigham revealed,
I said to Christopher McQuarrie on [Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning]: ‘I don’t want a bigger trailer. I don’t want more money. I don’t want better catering. I just want one scene between Tom and I, where you, McQ, write it like The Usual Suspects, and we get a chance to get in there.’ And he delivered.
While the actor did not reveal what this scene is, seeing how The Usual Suspects is one of McQuarrie’s best movies, it would be a treat to watch something similar to the vibe of the film unfold in Mission Impossible 8.
Shea Whigham Promises Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 8 Is Going to be Amazing
Shea Whigham has been busy filming the last two movies of the Mission Impossible saga for the past four years. While the twin SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed the shoot, he recently wrapped up the shoot just days ago. However, while recently talking to THR, the actor revealed Tom Cruise, and the rest of the crew are far from done.
Releasing next year in May, the actor revealed how dedicated Tom Cruise is towards the franchise, and it is Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie’s consistent efforts that make the films as successful as they are today. And the next film is going to be an even more amazing ride, as per Whigham.
I can’t even explain how he does the stuff that he does. What he’s doing now, people are going to be floored. He wants to make this one like an adventure film, and he and McQuarrie have an idea of what they want to do with it. So it’s going to be amazing.
With the upcoming Mission Impossible 8, promising to be a delightful feast by Shea Whigham, fans can certainly look forward to an amazing cinematic experience.
Mission Impossible 8 is slated to release on May 23, 2025.
