Mass Effect 3’s New Ending Would Have Given Everyone the Closure They Deserved, Without the Sour Taste of the Original (and Terrible) Ending We Got

Even though BioWare’s blockbuster RPG Mass Effect 3 celebrated its 12th anniversary this March, some fans still feel they didn’t get the ending they deserved. It’s unfortunate, and the free Extended Cut addition that arrived a few months after the game’s release didn’t do much to appease the angry fans.
Thankfully, there’s some good news for those who were disappointed with the Mass Effect 3 ending. A free mod available on NexusMods can help remove the sour taste of the original ending and provide a nice dose of nostalgia.
Could the Citadel Epilogue Mod Give Mass Effect 3 the Closure It Deserves?
Although we received an official DLC for Citadel from BioWare in 2013, taking a look at the Citadel Epilogue mode created by Autoola may be an important thing for those who are not satisfied with the ending the game offers.
While developer Autoola didn’t make any grand promises about the mod he released, he did say the following:
Play the Citadel DLC post-credits and experience the ultimate “Shepard Survives” feeling. No Cerberus. No war. No Reapers. Just fun.
Some fans who had the opportunity to try the mod gave very positive feedback, and others recommended giving it a shot. The features of the mod are listed as follows on NexusMods:
- Play the Citadel DLC post-ending, with all references to Reapers, War, and Cerberus removed.
- Comes in 2 options: CEM Full to play the entire DLC post-ending or CEM Lite for just the party.
- Highly recommended to use alongside Audemus’ Happy Ending Mod (Version 1.4 or above) but will work on a vanilla ending too (though destroy ending is obviously forced).
If players were looking for a good ending to the game this mod is the only way for them to get it right now.
Mass Effect 3 Is the Franchise’s Most Successful Game, Despite Its Story Inconsistencies
Mass Effect 3 was met with great enthusiasm when it was first released. In fact, it sold more than 800,000 copies in its first 24 hours, doubling the sales of its predecessor. Although exact sales figures are not currently available, it has sold over 7 million copies worldwide.
The game has earned more than $200 million in revenue, according to various industry sources. There was an important development last year for players who want to get something new about the series.
BioWare announced Mass Effect 5 with the trailer it published at The Game Awards in 2020. Moreover, as part of last year’s N7 Day 2023, the studio released a half-minute trailer about this game, which is probably being developed. However, neither its plot nor its release date are currently known.
