Squid Game Might’ve Quietly Made Player 007 the Biggest Legacy Plot Twist Yet

Spoiler Alert !!!
The following article contains spoilers for Season 3 of Squid Game!

Squid Game has been one of the most successful TV series released in recent times, taking the world by storm. The show’s unique twist, featuring a total of 456 players coming together to win an unbelievable jackpot by playing children’s games, where failure meant death, made the show go viral. With a gripping storyline and nail-biting moments, fans would watch the series in one sitting.

Over the course of two seasons, the series has featured several mind-blowing revelations, like Oh Il-nam, Player 001, in Season 1, being the creator and host of the games. The other is that the Frontman has a brother, Hwang In-ho, who tried to expose the secret games.

With Season 3 of the show right around the corner, fans have come up with a shocking theory that makes Park Yong-sik, Player 007, the biggest heritage of the games.

Squid Game fan theory proves Player 149 is another insider playing the games

After the cliffhanger conclusion in Season 2 of Squid Game, fans can’t help but come up with theories that hold the ability to be the biggest potential plot twists in the upcoming season. The 2nd season of the show was a spectacle to watch, especially in terms of storytelling and elevating the stakes of the games, all while adding depth to the overall narrative.

This included the friendship between Player 001 and Player 456 and the death of fan-favorite characters like Se-mi, Thanos, and Kang Mi-na. While several twisted fan theories have graced the internet, none can match the level that centers around Jang Geum-ja, or simply Player 149, who joined the games too for money to pay off her debts. Much is not known about her except that she had an unfaithful husband and had a son.

During the season, the sweet old lady played a pivotal role in the success of many players and took genuine care of them. However, this brings up the theory of her being a double agent because she was unharmed in all of the games, including Player 001 helping her during the Mingles game. Interestingly, people who were close to her during the games were also unscathed.

But more importantly, it was noticed that she managed to smuggle a hairpin inside the game, whereas the tracker inside the tooth of Player 456 could not escape the strict checking of the guards. Quite shady, when looked at from a neutral perspective, as they should’ve confiscated it upon her arrival in the game.

Well, it is not like she would receive special privileges, as the game has the strict principle of treating every player as equals. Thus, making everyone think she’s an insider like Player 001 and is another observer of the games.

Squid Game fan theory: Player 007 holds the biggest secret in the show

This theory now puts the limelight on her son, Park Yong-sik, Player 007, who, just like other players, has joined the game to pay off his debt. However, upon arriving at the games, she found her mother there as well and received a good scolding from her. Now, according to theories from SuperVideos Entertainment, Player 149 participated in the Squid Game because her son, Player 007, entered the game without her knowledge.

Player 007 can be the son of Jang Geum-ja and Oh Il-nam

The channel provided instances from Season 2 where she denied him from joining the rebellion. It is understandable that a mother will not let her son go in harm’s way, but fans feel otherwise for two potential reasons. A, she was secretly working with the Front Man and creators of the game; B, she knew the risks of the ‘failed’ rebellion and did not want her son to get shot because she was planted just like Player 001.

However, it can be noticed how Player 007 has similar behavioral patterns to Player 001 from Season 1. Despite having no concrete evidence of the two being biologically connected, it can be observed that both have a similar walking style and smile. Additionally, it was also noticed that both have a similar resting face.

Interestingly, it can also be assumed that Oh Il-nam was the unfaithful husband of Jang Geum-ja, as the two are around the same age. Well, whatever the case, fans do not have too long because the show is just days away, and in the meantime, they can rewatch the two seasons to recollect the events and get into the Squid Game fever.

Squid Game Season 3 is set to premiere on June 27, 2025, available exclusively on Netflix.
