Eddie Munson Is Returning in Stranger Things Season 5: Here’s the Evidence

We all cried when Eddie Munson died in Season 4, mainly because the combination of that guitar solo, those demobats, and Dustin’s tears made it totally heartbreaking. But the fandom isn’t ready to let go, and there’s some pretty wild evidence suggesting our favorite metalhead might not be done yet.

When Joseph Quinn talked with Entertainment Tonight, the interviewer mentioned she had a feeling Eddie would return in Season 5, and Quinn’s response was

Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?

While the Duffer Brothers have since confirmed that Eddie will not return. Matt Duffer told Empire,

I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead.

But the clues throughout Season 4 had fans convinced that there was more to Eddie’s story.

Vecna Could Resurrect Eddie’s Body for Emotional Manipulation

The thing is, Eddie’s body is still in the Upside Down and if there’s one thing Vecna loves, it’s psychological torture. He possessed Will (Noah Schnapp), created the Mind Flayer, and literally gets inside people’s heads. What’s stopping him from resurrecting Eddie’s corpse and using it against the gang?

The group already carries massive guilt about leaving Eddie behind. Having him return as a twisted version of himself? That is going to emotionally break the kids, as it would force them to fight the friend they couldn’t save.

Eddie as Vampire Knight Kas: The D&D Connection Explained

In Dungeons & Dragons lore, there’s a vampire knight named Kas who was Vecna’s lieutenant before betraying him. The parallels are insane:

Kas (D&D) Eddie Munson
Vampire knight with long black hair Metalhead with long black hair
Fought Vecna with sword and shield Died fighting with spear and shield
Mentioned in D&D campaign Mike says “He was killed by Kas!” in Episode 1
Associated with bats in mythology Killed by demobats

Even in Season 4, Episode 1, Mike literally shouts

He was killed by Kas!

when Vecna appears in their Hellfire campaign. But there’s more to this theory. Season 5 episode 6 is titled “Escape from Camazotz.” In Mayan mythology, Camazotz means “death bat” (spirits that serve the underworld). The bat connection is everywhere. Eddie passing away from demobat attacks, and now we’re getting an episode centered around bat demons.

If Eddie returned as a vampire after those bat bites, he’d perfectly mirror Kas’s transformation. The Duffer Brothers have always used D&D as their storytelling compass. Eddie becoming Kas would be the ultimate payoff for fans who’ve been following these breadcrumbs.

All the seasons of Stranger Things are currently streaming on Netflix and Season 5 releases on 26th November, 2025.
