“Handwriting looking very shaky”: Everyone’s Worried About Yoshihiro Togashi’s Failing Health After Hunter x Hunter Chapter 425 Update

Hunter x Hunter manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi recently shared an update from his official X account about Chapter 425, confirming that the character inking for the chapter has now been completed. The series has been on a hiatus for quite some time now, and while Togashi keeps sharing updates about new chapters, the last chapter that was officially released was 410 in December 2024.

Still, Togashi working on new chapters is good news for fans as it hints that the series might be returning soon. However, what actually grabbed the fans’ attention was the manga creator’s shaky handwriting and visible strokes in the image attached to the post. It was immediately linked to his physical condition, a long-standing concern among fans.

Shaky Page Numbering on HXH Draft: Is Togashi’s Health Failing?

As Hunter x Hunter fans might remember, back in 2022, Togashi revealed that his physical condition had worsened while working on the series. He confirmed that his chronic back pain has become even more severe, and doing normal activities has also become a big task for him. This was, in fact, the main reason why he has been taking so many hiatuses, and the story has progressed at such an irregular pace.

Thus, when fans saw his shaky page numbering on the Hunter x Hunter draft for Chapter 425, they instantly linked it to his failing health. It became a huge topic of discussion on Reddit, and fans expressed concern for their favorite manga creator. While some showed concern for his condition, others wished him a healthy recovery.

Yoshihiro Togashi is one of the greatest mangakas in history, and his work has inspired many other creators. He has dedicated his life to his projects, and it has reached a point where it has caused serious issues for his health. The mangaka might need a big break to fully recover and prioritize his well-being, even if it means slowing down the series’ production once again for the foreseeable future.

Like Toriyama & Toyotarou, Togashi Must Choose His ‘Hunter x Hunter’ Successor

Togashi’s health has long been a major concern for him, his fans, and even the wider manga industry. His ongoing medical issues not only affect his ability to work consistently but also cause delays that can be avoided if he chooses a successor for himself. Health issues among manga creators are a recurring concern, and because of this, many mangaka eventually choose to appoint successors to carry on their work.

Handing over the project to a successor is something that sometimes works in the favor of everyone. The perfect example of this is Dragon Ball, as Akira Toriyama in 2015 decided to hand over the reins to Toyotarou by training him and helping him carry on the legacy of the franchise. It eventually helped in reigniting the fame that Dragon Ball once carried, and now Toyotarou is carrying the entire franchise on his shoulders.

Togashi has already revealed the different endings of Hunter x Hunter, and he most likely has the entire story planned. If he could appoint a potential successor who could illustrate the manga for him, it would not only help with his medical condition but also motivate him to refine the storyline. Do you think it would be a good idea for Togashi to appoint an illustrator for Hunter x Hunter? Let us know below!

Hunter x Hunter is currently available to read on Viz Media.
