My Hero Academia Star Wants Series to Continue in a Way That’s Better Than Demon Slayer

Even after My Hero Academia Season 8 (the final season) ends, a future MHA movie might still be in the making. Or at least, that’s what MHA star David Matranga wants to believe. Matranga, the English voice actor for Shoto Todoroki, recently spoke with ScreenRant and wondered whether the anime could still produce one final movie.

For Matranga, it will be even better if the film focuses more on Todoroki. He also mentioned that the franchise has enough room to create, not just one, but several more movies centered on different characters. In his words, this world still has so much left to explore.

I think there’s not just room for another movie — there’s room for several! Horikoshi has created such a rich world and such deeply developed characters that there are endless stories left to tell.

Matranga’s comment may spark a wave of social-media buzz about whether this idea could reach the series creator, Kohei Horikoshi, or the manga publisher, Shueisha. Although there’s no official news of any future installment from them, this could influence their decision. In fact, if another MHA movie does get made, it might even surpass the Demon Slayer movie craze.

How Future Possible My Hero Academia Movies Could Surpass Demon Slayer

My Hero Academia has been around for almost a decade now, just counting the anime alone. And while Demon Slayer has definitely surged in popularity recently, we’ve all seen what Studio Bones is capable of, especially with how Season 8 is shaping up.

With that level of quality, a future MHA movie could absolutely have the potential to break Demon Slayer’s records.

MHA also helped define the entire new-gen shonen landscape, so even if not everyone is still actively following the series, the emotional connection fans have built over the years runs deep.

So if the creators ever decide to drop a new movie after Demon Slayer Infinity Castle hype settles, it could cause a huge buzz. Sure, past MHA movies didn’t hit the same insane box-office numbers that Demon Slayer did, but now the timing may line up in MHA’s favor.

A list of previously released My Hero Academia movies:

Movie Release date IMDb Rating
My Hero Academia: Two Heroes August 3, 2018 (Japan) 7.3 / 10
My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising February 26, 2020 (wide theatrical) 7.7 / 10
My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission August 6, 2021 (Japan) 7.0 / 10
My Hero Academia: You’re Next August 2, 2024 (Japan) 7.0 / 10

However, we already have the prequel series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by Hideyuki Furuhashi, which is even getting a second season in 2026. And while that’s exciting on its own, fans are still hopeful for a proper sequel written by Horikoshi himself.

How Else Can My Hero Academia Continue the Series Besides Movies?

Todoroki’s English VA, David Matranga, mentioned in the same interview that he’s always wanted to see a short-form series, something like a six-episode arc focusing on individual characters.

Personally, I’ve always wanted to see something like a short-form vignette series — like a six-episode arc focusing on specific characters.

Although anime doesn’t usually go that route, My Hero Academia would be perfect for it because the world and cast have so much depth. And honestly, it’s a fun idea to think about. Fans will totally lock in if this becomes a reality, which we can already foresee.

So what would you prefer? A full-on movie or a short character-driven mini-series starring your favorites?

All previously released episodes, along with the final season episodes of My Hero Academia, are currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
