Who will play the role of the Dark Lord in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series? Well, if Ralph Fiennes‘ recent interview is any indication, it looks like Cillian Murphy might already have been cast.
During a red carpet conversation, the OG Voldemort was asked who he thinks should be the one filling his shoes for HBO’s project. Fiennes replied, “Well, I’m told they’re already filled, aren’t they?” before adding,
I’ve already said I think Cillian Murphy is very good. Very good, very good choice. I think they’ve cast it, haven’t they?

Of course, it is possible that Fiennes simply fell victim to online rumors and speculation. Murphy may or may not have really been cast in Harry Potter. We won’t truly know until HBO decides it’s time.
Cillian Murphy Previously Denied His Casting
Fiennes has always been in favor of Murphy carrying Voldemort’s torch forward. He once stated on Watch What Happens Live, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian.“
However, for his part, Murphy has explicitly denied his involvement in HBO’s Harry Potter series, sending much-needed luck to the actor who would be stepping into Fiennes’ shoes.
The Oppenheimer actor stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast,
No, my kids show me it occasionally, but no, I don’t know anything about that. I mean, also, it’s just really hard to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does. The man is an absolute acting legend. So, good luck to whoever is going to fill those shoes.
Do you think Murphy is simply trying to throw fans off? Or does he really have nothing to do with Voldemort?

While we don’t know who’s playing Voldemort, a large chunk of the cast has already been revealed. For the most part, it looks like fans are pretty in favor of the new ensemble, even if there have been a few controversies.
The golden trio – Harry, Hermione, and Ron – is all set to be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout. For those who don’t know, Stanton is also voicing a young Hermione in the upcoming audiobook adaptations of the first three Harry Potter books for Audible.

He added, “They’re very faithful adaptations of the book.“
