Annabella’s Request in Crimson Desert is simple: you head to a lake and fish for a Tench. While it sounds simple, the game doesn’t explicitly make you aware of the intricacies of fishing, and you’ll need to figure out the actual mechanics of fishing yourself to avoid snapping your line.
Worry not, as we’ve devised a detailed guide so you can learn fishing and complete Annabella’s request effortlessly. Take a look at how you can catch that Tench and make your life in Pywel easier (and more lucrative).
Here’s How to Fish in Crimson Desert & Complete Annabella’s Request
After you’ve completed the prologue of Crimson Desert, head to Hernand to read her poster on the city’s Notice Board. Once you’ve done that, your quest marker will point you towards Annabella’s store, which is a small shack (or saddlery) located to the north of the City of Hernand.
Once you meet her, focus on her to begin a conversation and trigger the “Annabella’s Request” side quest. She’ll offer you a free Fishing Rod and ask you to catch a Tench that she requires to make a saddle. So, you don’t need to have a Fishing Rod beforehand.
Prepared to catch the Tench? Then head north until you come across a wooden bridge. You’ll notice a waterfall to the left of the bridge. Head to the bottom to reach the pool before the waterfall, where the quest marker is. Find a suitable spot and begin fishing for a Tench. Follow these steps to fish in Crimson Desert effectively:
- Hold F2 on PC/Left D-Pad on controller to access the equipment wheel and cycle towards the Fishing Rod on the bottom right. If you have your bow on this slot, switch to the Fishing Rod using the mouse wheel or LT/RT on the controller, and then release the equipment wheel button to equip it.
- On PC, press Q, then hold the left mouse button to aim your cast, and release to throw it. On the other hand, if you’re on controller, hold LT/L2 to aim the cast, then release to throw it. When you’re casting, make sure that there’s a clear pool of water with no debris or rocks around it.
- Hold the left mouse button/LT to control and focus on the line, then wait for the Tench to take the bait. To reel in, move the mouse wheel on PC or the right joystick on your controller.
- Once you hear three splashes, a fish is about to take the bait. After it bites, click the right mouse button/RT on the controller to hook the Tench.
- The core mechanic of catching a fish in Crimson Desert is similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, as you’ll need to pull the line in the opposite direction of the fish’s movement to tire it and reel it in successfully. If it’s trying to swim right, pull the rod to the left and vice versa. Do not reel in until the fish stops fighting against you. Once it does, pull back and reel in the Tench. If it tries to swim away again, stop reeling and pull in the opposite direction again to tire it out.
Repeat this process until you catch the Tench. Avoid reeling it in while it’s fighting; otherwise, the line will snap, and the Tench will be in the trenches. After you’ve caught the Tench, head to the Bloomwood Ranch southeast of Hernand and deliver it to Annabella’s Assistant to complete the request. Here are the rewards that you get for completing Annabella’s Request:
- 1x Fishing Rod
- 1x Medium Bag
- 1x Dried Fish
- +50 Trust with Annabella
- +50 Hernandian Contribution
Fishing Is a Lucrative Activity in Crimson Desert
Believe it or not, out of the sheer amount of things that you can do in Crimson Desert, fishing is one of the most lucrative ones, especially for beginners and selling cooked fish will easily net you significant revenue. However, to make this side hustle work, you’ll need to work on your fishing skills actively.
After you catch a fish, you can cook it and eat it yourself for various benefits, or you can sell it for a high price to vendors. That’s why fishing is a lucrative activity in the game, and one of the best ways to earn money early on. Additionally, you can catch fish without using a Fishing Rod by going into the water and grabbing it with your bare hands.
