Depth Module Tadpole Upgrade Location in Subnautica 2

Getting around in Subnautica 2 is only easy when you remain in shallow water, and diving deeper requires you to get the Tadpole, your own submersible that helps you breathe underwater. However, it can only reach 250 meters in depth before it starts taking damage, meaning it’s time to go and hunt for the vehicle’s Depth Module Mk. 1 upgrade, which extends the range up to 450 meters. This is a non-negotiable upgrade if you want a smooth playthrough, as you will need it to explore key locations such as the Karakorum Metal Farm in mid-late game.

Here’s how you can unlock the Depth Module upgrade for the Tadpole in Subnautica 2.

How to Find the Tadpole Depth Module Blueprint in Subnautica 2

The Depth Module blueprint isn’t simply handed to you, and you will have to track it down through an in-game clue. Once you’ve progressed to the Alien Base, head to the NOA Terminal inside. It will log a clue about a Tadpole carrying a Depth Module that went down south-southeast of the Alien Base, at bearing 165 degrees. You can also start your journey at the nearby abandoned Research Outpost, found just a bit north-east of the Alien Base.

Follow that bearing from the Alien Base until you locate a cave entrance descending into the seafloor. This is the Needler Nest, where Needler Mangoes guard the area, so approach carefully. After you enter the cave, you’ll spot a small entrance right in front of you on the floor, marked by a lightpost and a mineral deposit, enter it and at the bottom of the cave, you’ll find a crashed Tadpole wreck, with the Depth Module datacard lying just in front of it. Swim up, grab it, and the blueprint should unlock automatically.

The exact coordinates of the Depth Module are:

  • -200190, 450545, -29273

It’s also worth keeping an eye out for the Celestine deposits near the Research Base, which is more than convenient since it is one of the resources you will need to craft the module later on.

With the blueprint in hand, it’s time to head back to your base and build a Modification Station (built with 2x Copper, 2x Titanium, and 2x Celestine) if you haven’t already. Once that’s up, craft the Tadpole Depth Module Mk. 1 using the following materials:

  • 3x Celestine
  • 2x Enameled Glass
  • 1x System Chip

Once crafted, swim out to your Tadpole and interact with the upgrade panel on the top of the vehicle, found behind the Power Cell socket. Slot the Depth Module in, and your crush depth will immediately increase from 250 meters to 450 meters. It’s important to note that these modules do not stack, meaning installing two copies won’t make you go any deeper.
