How to Unlock and Use the Glider in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?

No Batman game would feel complete without the Dark Knight soaring across Gotham using his cape as a glider, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight fully embraces that fantasy. While the Grapple Gun helps players move between rooftops early on, true aerial traversal only becomes possible once the glider is unlocked.

Thankfully, players do not have to wait too long before gaining access to it. The process is fairly straightforward, though it does require progressing through the story and completing an early Chapter 1 mission before Batman can finally take to the skies. Let’s dive into further details.

Where to Unlock the Glider in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Players unlock the glider after completing the Wayne Industries mission in Chapter 1. In a sequence inspired by Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne visits Lucius Fox at Wayne Tower to receive upgrades for his crimefighting equipment. During this mission, Batman is given a special memory cloth woven into his cape, allowing him to glide across Gotham’s skyline.

After leaving Wayne Tower, the game immediately introduces the mechanic through a short tutorial sequence from the top of a skyscraper. Players are taught the basic controls while gliding through the air and collecting floating studs during a calibration segment.

The tutorial is designed to help players get comfortable with controlling Batman while airborne before Gotham fully opens up for exploration in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Unlocking the glider dramatically changes traversal across the city. Before this point, players mainly rely on the Grapple Gun to move between buildings, but gliding allows Batman to freely soar above Gotham’s streets, making exploration much faster and smoother

Interestingly, Batman is not the only character who can glide. As the story progresses, all seven playable characters gain their own versions of aerial traversal. The game even includes a comedic scene where Jim Gordon suddenly deploys a pair of GCPD-approved glider wings after being pushed off a rooftop by Batman.

Using the glider is a simple process in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Players only need to jump from a high ledge and press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox while airborne (Spacebar for PC). Batman will instantly spread his cape and begin gliding through the air.

The left stick controls movement and speed while flying, allowing players to descend slowly or build momentum while crossing long distances. For even faster movement, players can activate a Glide Boost by pressing L3 while gliding. This gives Batman a burst of speed that makes traversing Gotham significantly quicker (a clever nod to the Arkham series).

One of the best traversal tricks is combining the Grapple Gun with gliding. During the grapple animation, pressing the glide button launches Batman upward and transitions directly into a glide. Using this technique repeatedly allows players to maintain altitude and travel across large portions of Gotham without ever touching the ground.

Players should also keep an eye out for air vents located around the city. Flying into these vents creates an upward burst of wind that boosts Batman higher into the air, extending glide distance and helping players reach taller buildings.
