Black Clover is finally returning to television with its long-awaited second season, and this time the wait has a very specific end date. Black Clover Season 2 premieres in Japan on October 3, 2026, continuing the anime more than five years after the original TV run concluded. Studio Pierrot is returning, with Ayataka Tanemura directing the new season.
The return was first officially announced in July 2025, when production on a second season was confirmed. A December 2025 teaser then announced a 2026 television broadcast before the exact October window was revealed in June 2026. The final premiere date was confirmed in September.

Studio Pierrot remains in charge of animation, while Ayataka Tanemura takes the director’s chair. Tanemura previously directed Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King and worked on the latter part of the original television series. Keiichiro Ochi handles series composition, Itsuko Takeda returns as character designer, and Minako Seki continues on music.
What Will Black Clover Season 2 Cover?
Season 2 picks up with the Spade Kingdom conflict, rather than rebooting Asta’s journey from scratch. The official synopsis places the Dark Triad at the center of the new story. The Spade Kingdom’s rulers possess the power of high-ranking devils and launch an invasion that threatens both the Clover and Heart Kingdoms. Yami and William are captured, while Heart Kingdom Queen Lolopechka also falls into the enemy’s hands. Asta therefore has more than another tournament-style power-up to chase: he needs to master the true power of his devil-linked Anti-Magic to help rescue his allies.
For viewers who have forgotten the setup, the original anime ended with Asta and the other Magic Knights having trained for the looming Spade Kingdom threat. The official Road to 2nd Season campaign is even revisiting the first anime’s major arcs before the comeback, from the Magic Knights Entrance Exam through the Elf Reincarnation storyline.
The Spade Kingdom invasion begins after the Heart Kingdom training period and becomes a major turning point in Asta and Yuno’s development. Official Shonen Jump material describes the Spade Kingdom invasion as the point where the Dark Disciples attack the Heart Kingdom, and Dante targets the Black Bulls.
Is There an Official Black Clover Season 2 Trailer?
Yes. Black Clover Season 2 has received an official full trailer, following the earlier teaser PV released in December 2025. The main trailer was released on July 5, 2026, and confirms that the new season enters the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, with Asta and the Magic Knights preparing to confront the Dark Triad.
The trailer wastes little time getting into the action. It showcases Asta’s Devil Union, Yuno’s Spirit Dive and Nacht’s devil powers, while teasing the massive battle ahead in the Spade Kingdom. Asta is shown pushing his Anti-Magic abilities further as the Magic Knights move toward a rescue mission involving their captured captains. The official synopsis confirms that Yami Sukehiro, William Vangeance and Heart Kingdom Queen Lolopechka have been taken by the enemy, giving the coming conflict a very personal edge.
The earlier teaser gives fans an even closer look at Asta’s training with Liebe, including sequences of the two fighting together and Nacht helping Asta master Devil Union. It also highlights Yuno leading other Magic Knights into battle and features Yami preparing to draw his sword.
How Many Episodes Will Black Clover Season 2 Have?
Black Clover Season 2 is widely expected to run for 24 episodes across two cours, but the official production committee has not announced an episode count or confirmed a two-cour structure. Anime Expo’s own schedule confirms that Gakuto Kajiwara and director Ayataka Tanemura presented the premiere on July 4.
As per the leak provided by X account @PacemanOP, the new season could have 24 episodes split into two cours. But unless the episode count is officially announced, fans should take any reports with a grain of salt.
The original series ran for an enormous 170 episodes. There is currently no official announcement confirming whether Season 2 will run continuously, use cours, or stop at a particular story point.
