Reacher Season 4 Episode 7 explained why one tiny drive had left such a gruesome trail behind it. Jacob learned that Anna’s file contained an old photograph of Nolan Cahill, John Sampson, and General Putra, but the men weren’t the valuable part. A blurry whiteboard behind them contained the formula for a lethal toxin. Modern AI could sharpen what old photography had obscured, allowing Lila and Amisha Hoth to recreate the weapon. By the finale, the sisters are preparing to auction that formula online, but buyers want proof that it can kill on a horrifying scale first.
And that brings us to Sampson’s fundraiser, where Reacher decides to make its finale hurt before letting anyone win.
Sampson Pays the Price for the Hoths’ First Attack
John Sampson is about to announce his presidential run when Tomas arrives with the toxin. Sampson tackles Tomas into the river, sacrificing himself to save everyone at the fundraiser. His past mistakes remain, but in his final moment, he makes the right choice and saves hundreds of lives.
Reacher nearly gets arrested in the ensuing chaos until Jacob arrives to get him out. Elsbeth Sampson, devastated but immediately suspicious, orders her camera crew to preserve everything they recorded. “We don’t know who we can trust, and I’m not going to let anyone bury this,” she says. “We are going to find who killed John and make them f**king pay.” Considering how many people want that flash drive gone, her paranoia seems pretty well earned.
Reacher Turns the Hoths’ Hideout Into a War Zone
Russell Plum identifies Tomas through news coverage, leading police to the restaurant, but the Hoths have already fled. Tamara realizes they may return, and she is right. Reacher, Tamara, and Jacob enter, splitting up to attack the Hoths’ men. Reacher takes on the attackers using gunfire, explosions, and even an elevator. Then someone nails his hand to a wall and later to the floor. I had to laugh at the sheer Reacher-ness of what comes next. Most people would regard nails through the hand as a compelling reason to stop fighting. Reacher uses the protruding nails to injure the men attacking him. Of course he does.
Lila Dies by the Weapon She Wanted to Sell
Tamara and Jacob stop an operative from releasing the toxin at a crowded nightclub. Meanwhile, Reacher is badly wounded when Lila and Amisha attack him. He sends Amisha through a window, but Lila stabs him and believes she has won. Reacher spots a syringe containing the toxin and injects Lila with it instead. After an entire season of watching her manipulate people, murder Anna and Ben, and plan to sell mass death to the highest bidder, there is something savagely fitting about her own creation killing her.
Amisha Survives, but Jacob Refuses Revenge
Reacher retrieves the flash drive and staggers outside before collapsing from blood loss. CIA operative Foster then arrives, having followed him while waiting for the drive to resurface. Foster barely gets his opportunity. Amisha, somehow alive after being thrown through the window, appears and slits his throat. She is preparing to finish Reacher when Jacob shoots her. This could easily have become Jacob’s revenge killing. Anna and Ben are dead because of the Hoths, and Amisha is lying wounded in front of him with her own blade within reach.
Jacob picks it up, but he doesn’t kill her. He arrests her. Killing Amisha might satisfy him for seconds; refusing to become an executioner gives Jacob somewhere to go after grief has consumed so much of his life.
Reacher Season 4 Ending Explained: The Flash Drive
The flash drive survives Reacher Season 4 finale, and Reacher makes a surprisingly smart choice about its future. After recovering in the hospital, he visits Plum and returns his rescued cat. Then he hands over Anna’s drive. “Write your story. Get your Pulitzer. Take care of the cat.” Plum immediately begins writing, ensuring the toxin formula and government history become public. When Elsbeth asks Reacher for the drive, he tells her the truth will come out anyway, and she accepts that John would have wanted it exposed.
Jacob and Uncle Monty scatter Anna and Ben’s ashes at the beach, while Tamara receives the Medal of Valor and returns to homicide. Sampson is honored with a military funeral. Reacher, as always, leaves by train. After remembering Anna, he notices a distressed woman, sits beside her, and shares his cheesesteak. It’s a quiet ending that fits the story: Anna’s evidence survives, and Reacher leaves knowing her truth will finally be told.
