Star Trek’s galaxy is filled with alien races who can build powerful tech. DC’s Lanterns have reintroduced the world of the Green Lantern Corps and the Power Ring. The intergalactic police force has the Ring as their most important and dangerous weapon. It is constructed by the Guardians of Oa and is powered by the wielder’s will. Extreme genius and mastery of will are required to build a tool like this.
Here are five Star Trek races ranked by how convincingly they could design, build, and responsibly distribute a Green Lantern-style power ring.
5. The Ferengi Would Build a Power Ring but Would Not Be Selfless
The Green Lantern Corps are a selfless breed of people. They are protectors of the galaxy, and the power ring demands selfless, indomitable will. The Ferengi are capable of crafting the power ring, with their capitalistic society ready to power the innovations and make sure that ample resources are given for such a device to be created.
However, the Ferengi would find a way to make money out of it. They would likely put it on a subscription, which would totally be out of character for the Guardians of Oa.
4. The Q Continuum Possesses the Power Without the Tech
The Q are near-omnipotent space gods who reshape reality with a thought, making them the most powerful entities on this list by far. Ironically, that’s their weakness here: Q do not need to build anything, including rings. Their power is not engineered; it is innate. They would have little patience or motivation for constructing a delicate willpower-based device for lesser species.
3. The Borg Can Never Use the Individual Will Power of the Ring
The technological advancements that the Borg possess are quite staggering. They can assimilate technologies from various civilizations and races. They even devised one of the most destructive WMDs in Star Trek. They operate like a hive mind, and every single member of the species is able to use this tech. So, they have the power, in theory, to assimilate the Guardians of Oa and create the power ring.
However, the ring operates through individual will. As a hive mind, the Borg would be incapable of using the ring to its full extent, and it would hence be useless.
2. Vulcans Have the Mental Discipline to Build Green Lantern Tech
Vulcans built warp-capable ships before humanity and pioneered many core Federation technologies, all filtered through Surak’s philosophy of pure logic and suppressed emotion. Their millennia of mental discipline and processes like mind melds, the katra, and total emotional control map closely onto the willpower a ring requires. Their weakness is imagination; constructs need emotional spark, something Vulcans deliberately restrain.

The Iconians were an ancient, near-mythical precursor civilization capable of instantaneous interstellar travel through advanced gateway technology, so sophisticated that other species once called them ‘demons of air and darkness.’
Their mastery over space, time, and energy dwarfs nearly every other Star Trek civilization. Combining that raw engineering supremacy with an established history of empire-building makes them the most plausible architects of a true Green Lantern-caliber ring.
