6 Dragon Ball Arcs With The Best Fight Scenes, Ranked

Dragon Ball has been throwing punches for over forty years, so picking its best fights was never going to be easy. Some arcs hang everything on one showdown, while others stack brawl after brawl. For this list, we went with the stories that gave us the most fights worth rewatching: the choreography, the stakes, and those moments that made us yell at the screen. They’re ranked from sixth to first, and a few still hit as hard as they did the first time. Grab a Senzu Bean, though, because this one might leave you winded.

6. Saiyan Saga: Goku Pushes Kaio-ken Times Four Against Vegeta

This is where Dragon Ball Z first proved it could deliver real fights. Fresh from King Kai’s training, Goku meets Vegeta’s Galick Gun with a Kaio-ken times four Kamehameha and wins the clash. Then Vegeta whips up an artificial moon, becomes a Great Ape, and starts crushing Goku. The ending takes a whole team. Goku starts a Spirit Bomb, Yajirobe slices off the tail, Krillin throws the bomb, and Gohan bats it back at Vegeta. It sits at number six because the arcs ahead of it are bigger, faster, and have far more on the line.

5. Future Trunks Saga: Vegito Blue Squares Off With Fused Zamasu

Goku Black arrives in Dragon Ball Super wearing Goku’s face and a pink Super Saiyan Rosé form that can trade blows with Super Saiyan Blue. It turns out he’s Zamasu, who used the Super Dragon Balls to swap bodies with Goku. The fights between Black, Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks stay tense, and the arc peaks when Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegito Blue to face Fused Zamasu. Sadly, the fusion times out before they can finish him, and Future Zeno has to erase the timeline. It ranks fifth because the fights are great, but fists don’t actually win this one.

4. Majin Buu Saga: Vegito, Final Explosion, and One Giant Spirit Bomb

Buu’s saga throws a bit of everything at us. Vegeta sacrifices himself with a Final Explosion that Buu simply regenerates from, and Goku steps in to hold him off as a Super Saiyan 3. Later, Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegito to take on Super Buu, and it’s one of the most fun fights in the whole series. It all ends with Goku and Kid Buu, finished off by a giant Spirit Bomb built from energy lent by Earth’s people. Majin Buu’s several forms give it the oomph and intensity it deserved. It lands at number four because the fights are huge fun, but they’re spread thin across a very long story.

3. Tournament of Power Saga: Ultra Instinct Goku Takes On Jiren

Eighty fighters from eight universes, and plenty of them get a moment. Nothing beats the ending, though. He squares up with Jiren of Universe 11 and keeps pushing past his limits until Goku’s Ultra Instinct wakes up, first as the Sign form and later fully mastered. The final push belongs to Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 working together to knock Jiren out. Universe 7 wins, and Android 17 wishes the erased universes back. It sits third because Goku versus Jiren is a spectacle, but so many side fights get very little room to breathe.

2. Cell Games Saga: Gohan Snaps and Delivers the Father-Son Kamehameha

Goku hands the fight to Gohan, and it turns into the most emotional battle in Dragon Ball Z. Gohan holds back at first, then Cell crushes Android 16’s head, and Gohan snaps into Super Saiyan 2. He hits Cell so hard that Cell spits up Android 18. Cell tries to blow up the Earth, Goku teleports him to King Kai’s planet, and somehow Cell survives. Gohan finishes him with a Father-Son Kamehameha, with Goku’s spirit beside him. It’s second because the emotion and stakes are huge, but Goku only gets a small part.

1. Frieza Saga: Goku Goes Super Saiyan and Ends a Space Tyrant

This is the fight everyone remembers. Goku takes on Frieza on Namek, and a Kaio-ken times twenty Kamehameha only singes his palm. Even the Spirit Bomb isn’t enough to put him down. Then Frieza blows Krillin apart, and Goku turns Super Saiyan (one of the best Super Saiyan designs) for the first time. Frieza sets Namek on a five-minute countdown, powers up to full strength, and ends up sliced in half by his own Death Saucer. It takes the top spot because it has everything: huge stakes, a slow burn, and the transformation that changed the series forever.
