The multi-time World Champion, Brock Lesnar, who dominated the world of professional wrestling, once defeated Dwayne Johnson in the ring. Engaging in an otherwise brutal match, Lesnar wasted no time in asserting his dominance over The Rock. Breaking into the WWE main roster scene in 2002, the duo had a thrilling match.
However, years later after Brock Lesnar made history by becoming the youngest WWE Champion of all time, he published his honest feelings about that match, in his autobiography. Beating Dwayne Johnson at SummerSlam 2002, Lesnar claimed that it was business. He adamantly refused to admit that The Rock let him win.
Brock Lesnar Defeated Dwayne Johnson in 2002
Back in 2002 when Dwayne Johnson was at the peak of his career in the wrestling industry, he was made to face the then-rising star Brock Lesnar, within the ring. Lesnar had just made his main roster debut on RAW after WrestleMania X8 and became the top contender for Johnson’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
Challenging him at SummerSlam 2002, Brock Lesnar appeared in the main event against Dwayne Johnson. And without wasting any time, Lesnar asserted his dominance over The Rock and soon defeated him. Becoming the new champion by defeating Johnson, the multi-time World Champion earned his fame in the wrestling industry.
Later on, Brock Lesnar carried his career in wrestling while Dwayne Johnson left for Hollywood. Each finding fame in their own domain, Lesnar is now likely he will be back in time for WrestleMania 40 in 2024. The champion even wrote an autobiography about his life and career, where he spoke about the time he defeated Johnson.
Brock Lesnar Recalled The Match as a Business
Despite being the most reserved personnel in the wrestling industry, Brock Lesnar opened up about his 2002 match against Dwayne Johnson. According to his autobiography, Lesnar shared his honest feelings and almost appeared to be ungrateful for the win. Refusing to admit that Johnson let him win as a gift, he called it a business.
Reaching the peak of unparalleled dominance in the wrestling industry after defeating Dwayne Johnson, Lesnar opened up about working with him. Writing about the event in his autobiography Death Clutch, the multi-time World Champion hugely appreciated Johnson for losing clean.
“I’ll always appreciate what Dwayne did for me and my family. I don’t know how many other guys Dwayne would have been happy to lose too clean, but he did it for me because he knew I could carry the torch for the company until he got it back. It wasn’t a gift. It was business.” Lesnar wrote. (Via Ringside News).
Brock Lesnar argued that what Dwayne Johnson did was business, as the actor trusted Lesnar to “carry the torch”. Refusing to admit and be grateful for the gift that Johnson offered him, Lesnar carried on his work.
