1 Thing Harvey Weinstein, P Diddy, and R Kelly Have in Common, Dame Dash Cut Ties With Every One of Them
Co-founder of Roc-a-fella Records and Rocawear, Damon Anthony Dash, best known as Dame Dash, has often made waves in the industry because of his business acumen. The entrepreneur has contributed to some big companies that have seen immense highs in Hollywood and the music industry. He has been a long-time partner of Jay-Z since both of Dash’s business ventures have the rapper as a co-founder too.
Along with his entrepreneurial spirit, Dash is also known for his straightforward attitude and refusal to take any negativity from anyone else. He speaks his mind freely and chooses to distance himself from anyone who disturbs his peace. The same has reportedly happened with many big names in the industry. It seems like Dash is not afraid to make enemies to keep himself sane in this dog-eat-dog world.

Back in 2017 when The Diplomats released a song titled Once Upon a Time, it came as a shock to people when one of the lyrics seemed to be, “No disrespecting the ladies, word from my team / That’s the reason Dame smacked Harvey Weinstein / On the set of Paid In Full, y’all gave him hell about it.” Singer Cam’ron allegedly revealed what truly went down between Dame Dash and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
Dash wanted the movie Paid in Full to release as it was made, but Weinstein had other plans as he kept the movie on hold for years and dodged Dash everywhere they went. This led to a clash between the two and Dash and Weinstein don’t speak to each other since. When the latter’s harassment charges came to light, Dash jumped to the scene to align himself with Weinstein’s accusers.
On the other hand, when Diddy’s party photos with Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z, and Dash came to light, the businessman shed light on the matter and claimed he only attended that one party with Aaliyah back in the early 2000s. The rapper and Dash underwent a clash when news broke that Diddy assaulted Cassie at one of his signature parties. In an Instagram live stream, Dash said,
People will sit there and watch people do things that could be immoral but until they get caught nobody says anything. Whether it’s illegal or immoral for me I just break out — I don’t wait for people to get busted. If something’s against my moral fabric then I’m moving on. I make a choice to maybe walk away from some money or walk away from a relationship or a certain kind of financial opportunity.
He hinted at cutting ties with Diddy long before such allegations started coming to light. Dash likes to keep his inner circle clean of such allegations and nasty lawsuits. The businessman has marked clear boundaries for himself and his acquaintances.
Dame Dash distanced himself from Jay-Z
Dash and Jay-Z seemed to be brothers in arms at a time when they worked on their record label and fashion brand together. However, numerous instances threatened to break their bond and sent them their separate ways. The failure of Dash to pay taxes seems to be the last straw when the state of New York purchased a third of Roc-a-Fella with the business left on the outskirts of the deal.
It seems like Dash was determined to break ties with Jay-Z long before this business deal went sour. Dash pinpoints the situation when Jay-Z chose to collaborate with R Kelly, the rapper who was known to have married Aaliyah when she was just 15 years old. The controversy was huge at the time since Dash also dated Aaliyah around the time she passed away. He said in an interview with The Art of Dialogue,
The fact that Jay was f*cking with him is what used to blow my mind more than anything. I don’t know why he wanted to f*ck with this guy so much. Like why? I’ve never understood it. Everybody knew R. Kelly married Aaliyah at 15. Everybody knew that. So was the conversation like, ‘yo, how you gonna go and do something with this dude?’ hell yeah that conversation was had!
Despite losing everything and nearly going broke, Dash was at least adamant on keeping his morals intact. The entrepreneur must have left the entire industry behind had he known what goes down in the glamorous world of films and shows.
