Real Reason Lex Luthor Is a Bigger Hater Than Doctor Doom: He Infected His Own Wife With an Incurable Disease To Break Superman

When it comes to comic book villains, both Lex Luthor and Doctor Doom are legendary for their intelligence, power, and sheer hatred for their arch-nemesis. At the same time, Doom holds a grudge against the noble Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, fueled by arrogance and rivalry, Luthor is driven by hate for Superman, reaching a level of cruelty that even Doom might find excessive.
Although Doom has committed many grave crimes across the universe and even destroyed the multiverse, Luthor’s obsession with destroying Superman is such that he even took away his own happiness.
When Lex Luthor surpassed all levels of hatred to destroy Superman
Lex Luthor has always been defined by his incurable obsession with Superman and his desire to destroy him. But his actions in Action Comics #510, the Angela Blake affair, prove just how far he is willing to go to achieve his sinister goals.
In a cruel and calculated scheme, Luthor kidnapped an innocent girl called Angela Blake. Angela was suffering from the deadly DXS illness, which Luthor could have cured easily. But he had her killed in a ‘humane’ way before using her to create an exact clone that had a devastating nano-bomb-like tech in her cells.
He then had his memories removed from this plan, genuinely falling in love with Angela and turning into a new leaf. He even became a friend of Superman, having him as his Best Man at his wedding. But having laced the nano-bomb-like tech to be triggered by Superman’s biochemistry, he had his wife kiss Superman.
The moment they did so, they disappeared in a puff of pink explosion. While Luthor’s minions took him back to restore the memories of his sinister plans, Superman revealed himself to be alive and already aware of Luthor’s plans. While the clone of Angela Blake was stuck in the antimatter dimension, forever trapped, Luthor lamented and sobbed for his loss, having actually fallen in love with Angela despite his evil nature.
‘Angela Blake’ affair proves Lex Luthor is worse than Doctor Doom when it comes to being evil
The Marvel Universe’s Doctor Doom has committed countless atrocities. Some of his worst deeds are when he stole the power of the Beyonder, sacrificed his first love for power, or even changed reality to make himself a god. However, despite his many evil deeds, he does not come close to the evilness that Lex Luthor possesses.
While that does not make Doom less of an evil being, there is no denying that despite his immense cruelty, he operated by a strict personal code. On the other hand, we have DC’s Luthor, whose hatred for Superman defies all codes of conduct or greater goals. While Doom is driven by his larger goal of ultimate dominance, aka power, Luthor’s evil actions are just pure, unfiltered hatred.
Kidnapping and then killing an innocent girl like Angela Blake, then making a clone of her who loved him deeply, his actions aren’t just strategic, but rather personal and disturbingly sadistic. While Doom is evil, he has not sacrificed his loved ones just out of spite. Hence, as far as the question of who is more ‘evil,’ the Angela Blake affair cements Lex Luthor as a villain whose hatred knows no bounds, making him, in many ways, worse than Doctor Doom.
