I Am Disappointed in The Rock’s Daughter Ava Raine’s WWE Run While He Is Still Killing It With John Cena

Ava Raine’s debut in WWE promised a career that would somehow follow in the footsteps of her dad, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, but her short-lived in-ring career was truly a wasted opportunity. While she’s free to make her own decisions, and being on the business side of the industry is great, it felt like it happened too soon.
Meanwhile, her father’s career in wrestling continued soaring even after he transitioned to acting. His return to WWE was highly anticipated, and now, he’s making a buzz again after the WrestleMania 41 event.
Ava Raine’s brief WWE in-ring career was very upsetting
Born as Simone Johnson, Ava Raine made a name for herself in the wrestling world after she expressed interest in it around 2017. She is known as the first fourth-generation wrestler to sign a contract with the sports company. Her first televised appearance was in an episode of NXT in October 2022.
She only had a couple of matches between this year and the following year as she ultimately became NXT’s General Manager. At 23 years old, she’s the youngest person to have this position in the history of WWE. While many believe her being a nepo baby facilitated her immediate rise in rank, she did not solely rely on her family’s connection or her parents’ influence.
It’s quite disappointing how short-lived Ava Raine’s in-ring career is. In 2023, she only had six matches from April to August, and only three were televised. Her final game was even a loss in NXT: Heatwave. The disbandment of the Schism, which she was a member of, was one of the reasons she no longer continued to fight.
The only sad thing about this is that she could have a full-blown fighting career just like her father, but it seems like Ava Raine enjoys managing talents and leading the franchise. As of 2024, Dave Meltzer also confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio (via Wrestling Inc.) that she’s no longer training to fight. “I think this is her role. She’s being groomed for an authority figure on the main roster at some point, or she’s going to do this for a while,” he said.
It remains to be seen whether she would want to make a comeback inside the ring—just like her father did—but it does not seem like she would return very soon.
The Rock and The Cenation Leader still bringing in the money
Dwayne Johnson and his former on-screen rival, John Cena, are still big names in the world of wrestling. Both of them have been focusing on their acting jobs that they had to leave the WWE for quite some time, but with their return came huge opportunities again to prove why they are the best in the world.
Cena, who has expressed willingness to retire very soon, is making his farewell tour. It’s also good to see him turn heel after playing the good guy for a very long time.
Surely, there are many things to look forward to in Cena’s and The Rock’s careers outside of WWE, so stay tuned for more updates.
