“We want to do more Atomfall”: Bad News For Todd Howard’s Fallout 5 as Rebellion Hints More Sequels and DLCs

Atomfall, a recent game set in a post-apocalyptic United Kingdom, has been blowing up ever since its release last month, and while the game’s success is the happiest fact about its creators over at Rebellion Developments, it’s equally as much bad news for Todd Howard and his upcoming Fallout 5.
For those who are clueless, Mr. Howard over at Bethesda has been building the Fallout franchise, a video game series that came before Atomfall and uses a similar premise of a post-apocalyptic world, which is the reason why further delays to his project just leave more space for Rebellion to cover.
Todd Howard is in trouble as Atomfall teases more content to follow
It is one thing to have a successful launch and another to keep it going. The latter is often only achieved by adding more content and constant updates to the game, something that Rebellion Developments has already planned to do, as revealed by Jason Kingsley, the studio’s CEO.
In a conversation with GamesIndustry.Biz, Kingsley talked about how they plan on scaling the studio’s projects, on which the CEO stated the following:
Now it looks like we want to do more Atomfall – it’s been successful, can we find the resources to do it? I don’t know. The idea has always been to have two thirds sequels, and one third new IP, pushing the boundaries. Partly because it’s actually interesting to solve the puzzles with a new IP.
Kingsley’s comments on Atomfall might be the warning shot Todd Howard was waiting for before he sped up the development of Fallout 5, a title that, despite being delayed to oblivion, is one that many fans have been patiently waiting for.
Why more content for Atomfall, as Fallout 5 keeps getting delayed, is a bad combination for Todd Howard
As Fallout 5 keeps sitting in the development limbo, Atomfall is taking all the attention there is to itself, possibly because it faintly resembles what everyone has been waiting for since forever and might just end up replacing Todd Howard’s iconic franchise wholly.
Rebellion Developments has played its cards brilliantly, working on a theme that has only been majorly explored by Fallout, except it’s an eerie British setting with what seems like a fresh twist. For now, Atomfall doesn’t really compare much to the giant of an IP that Fallout is, but it might start catching up real soon if Howard doesn’t cover more ground.
With the studio behind Atomfall now looking forward to crafting more DLCs and sequels for the game, it won’t be much time before there is no return for Bethesda, and it will have to share its audience with Rebellion.
