Did Rob Reiner’s Son Nick Kill Him and His Wife? Their Relationship Before Death Explored

Legendary filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer have been found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home. TMZ previously reported that two unidentified dead bodies were found on the premises, and the Los Angeles Fire Department was called around 3:30 PM PT for aid on Sunday, December 14.

Authorities found the bodies of a man, 78, and a woman, 68, approximately. The reported ages matched those of the deceased couple. The LA Police Department arrived ten minutes after the arrival of LAFD, and an investigation has been launched.

TMZ later learned that the victims were, in fact, the Reiners. As per the outlet’s sources, the late couple suffered lacerations consistent with a knife. Unfortunately, the story gets worse.

Another source told PEOPLE that Reiner and his wife were found by their daughter, Romy. Moreover, the outlet reported that multiple sources have claimed that it was their son, Nick, who carried out the brutal murders. While Nick is currently being questioned by the police, he has not been confirmed as the killer, and no arrests have been made.

Back in 2016, Nick Reiner opened up about his battle with addiction, telling PEOPLE that he struggled with drugs for years, beginning in his early years. This led to him being homeless and living on the streets. He was later admitted into rehab at the age of 15, but things got worse before they got better.

As his addiction got worse, he went farther from home and spent his days homeless in multiple states. His struggle eventually became the inspiration for the semi-autobiographical film, Being Charlie (2015).

Co-written by him and directed by his father, Being Charlie followed the story of a troublesome addict, Charlie, who had been in and out of rehab for years. Nick Robinson played the titular character.

Talking to NPR about working together, Reiner was asked if the film was difficult to make. He stated,

Well, it was in some ways. But in other ways it was the most satisfying creative experience I ever had because I got to work with Nick and even though we had struggled through some difficult things and the making of the movie certainly drudged those things up, it was also an opportunity to work through a lot of that stuff.

Nick and Reiner’s relationship was like that of any other father-son duo. It was not perfect, but at the end of the day, they had a lot of love for each other. When asked if they would like to work together again, Reiner stated, “…he was the heart and soul of the film and any time I would get an opportunity to work with him I would do it.”

However, both of them understood that Nick had to try to make his own path in the industry first.

Rob Reiner Discussed His Son’s Battle With Addiction

In a conversation with TODAY, Rob Reiner admitted that making Being Charlie was deeply personal to them. He added that before the collaboration, he didn’t truly understand what exactly his son was going through during the dark days of his life.

He said, “It was very personal. What I didn’t understand is the depth of what [Nick] was going through.” Working together helped Reiner to understand Nick better.

Reiner continued,

The process of making this film not only forced me to see what he was experiencing, but I think it forced him to see what I went through and what his mother went through. Hopefully the film is a reflection of that.

Speaking of their relationship, Nick told Variety that it only grew for the better during the making of Being Charlie. When he added a scene where the titular character would go and hug his father, it meant a lot to Reiner. Nick said, “That meant a lot to my dad, because it was sort of like I was accepting him back in.

Reiner achieved prominence through the CBS sitcom, All in the Family, earning him two Primetime Emmy Awards. He also acted in films like Sleepless in Seattle, The Wolf of Wall Street, The First Wives Club, and more. He met Michele while directing When Harry Met Sally, and the two tied the knot in 1989. Before Michele, he was married to actress Penny Marshall.

Only time will tell if Nick was the culprit here, as reports keep coming in about the Reiners’ unfortunate death. Share your thoughts in the comments section below and follow FandomWire for more updates.
