Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua Punching Stats: Did Joshua Really Win?

Anthony Joshua may have emerged victorious over Jake Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami, but fans don’t really consider this a win. In the first few rounds of the match, fans weren’t really happy with the match, as Paul’s main attempt was to survive in the ring. However, he managed to land a few of his throws.

Many would argue that Paul’s performance was better than Francis Ngannou’s against Joshua last year. Meanwhile, Joshua appeared very frustrated. He failed to land anything with malevolence in those first few rounds. It was just embarrassing to see how many of Joshua’s throws went wasted.

Paul’s strategy was clear in the latter rounds. He was trying to avoid a knockout loss. He tried clinching onto Joshua most of the time, without even attempting to throw that many punches. Joshua came back to his rhythm in the fifth round.

In the fifth round, Paul was knocked down twice with strong punches from Joshua. However, Paul survived the fifth round, which was a major win for him after earlier predictions claimed that Paul wouldn’t survive past 5 rounds (via Boxing Insider).

Paul was knocked down once again in round 6, but he still stood strong against Joshua. However, a fourth knockdown was enough for Paul to give up, earning a win for Joshua. Many would argue that it wasn’t really a win for Joshua at that point.

It wasn’t the best performance. I wanted to pin him down and hurt him. It took me longer than I expected. Jake Paul did really well and he deserves his props. It takes a real man to do that and he deserves respect for trying and trying and trying. But he came up against a real fighter tonight.

Joshua further invited Tyson Fury for a bout next. He shared, “And if Tyson Fury is serious, and if he wants to shake off his Twitter fingers and pick up some gloves, he should fight me.” When Ariel Helwani turned to Paul for his comments, he shared that he had a blast.

Paul shared, “I’m feeling good. That was fun. I love this sport and I had a blast.” He further praised Joshua, calling him a great fighter, and added that Joshua managed to break his jaw during the match. Paul shared:

Anthony is a great fighter. I got my a*s beat but that’s what this sport is all about. This sport has helped me so much — I think my jaw is broken, by the way.

Paul shared that he was finally going to take a break after spending the last six years training. Paul was supported by his brother, Logan Paul, during the match.
