One Piece: Joy Boy Voice Actor and Her Connection to Luffy Fuels Time Travel Theory Even More

In an exciting turn of events, Luffy’s old voice actor in One Piece, Urara Takano, has been confirmed to be Joy Boy’s voice actor. This news was revealed (by @pewpiece) after the latest episode featured a small sample of Joy Boy’s voice that shocked fans. Takano voiced Luffy in the One Piece OVA that came out 27 years ago.

While this is certainly a great development, fans have already started speculating insane parallels between Joy Boy and the One Piece protagonist. One of the theories that has gotten a lot of hype on social media since the revelation is the time travel theory. This speculation suggests that Luffy is a time traveler who went back into the past and became Joy Boy.

How Joy Boy’s VA Reveal Deepens His Parallel to Luffy

Since his introduction within the One Piece storyline, Joy Boy has been one of the most mysterious and also one of the most anticipated characters. While there have been only some details revealed about him, they have already made him a significant character who is bound to bring the biggest twist that the fans can expect. However, aside from all this, what makes Joy Boy’s character even more interesting is his connection to Luffy.

Luffy has been called the Joy Boy of the current pirate era, and individuals like Zunesha and the Iron Giant have even acted to his unintentional commands as they believe that he is, in fact, the mysterious character from the Void Century. Now that Luffy’s first Voice Actor, Urara Takano, has been confirmed to be Joy Boy’s Voice Actor, the parallel between the two One Piece characters deepens even more.

It was certainly a great and strategic move by Eiichiro Oda and Toei Animation that will not only hype up the eventual reveal of Joy Boy within the series but will also add more depth to his connection to the central narrative. He was a crucial figure at the time of the Void Century, and that significance will continue to echo throughout the world of One Piece.

Luffy’s Time-Travel Theory Makes No Sense but Feels Plausible

As mentioned above, one speculation that has been fueled a lot more since the revelation of Joy Boy’s Voice Actor is Luffy’s time-travel theory, which feels a little odd. While time travel as a concept has already been introduced within the One Piece storyline through a Devil Fruit (Toki Toki no Mi), it has certain limitations that make things a little complicated. Still, some fans think that Luffy somehow used this power to travel back in time and become Joy Boy.

He evidently decided to rewrite history by traveling in the past with the Straw Hat Pirates and save the One Piece world from the start. Now that Luffy’s old Voice Actor has been confirmed to be Joy Boy’s VA, this theory, even though it does not make sense, feels a lot more plausible to some One Piece fans. They believe that this was Oda’s way of confirming the time-traveling speculation within the One Piece storyline.

While the time-traveling theory certainly introduces a new perspective within the series, it feels out of character for Luffy and for Oda. Plus, the fact that the story is already in the second phase of the final saga suggests that a plot tool like time traveling needs a lot more time to be adjusted into the narrative. It requires more development, which won’t feel right at this point in time. Do you think the time-traveling theory has any merit in One Piece? Let us know below!
