Harry Potter: Kit Harington Questions Hogwarts’ Tournament Plot Holes & It’s Actually Pretty Funny

As a longtime Harry Potter fan, Kit Harington has openly admitted he grew up obsessed with J.K. Rowling’s books and has reread them multiple times. However, in a recent chat with Variety, while praising Half-Blood Prince as his favorite book, the Game of Thrones star jokingly poked fun at some plot gaps he noticed as a kid, especially in the fourth book, Goblet of Fire.

It’s good and it’s got a great ending. I have some questions about the plot holes during the tournament. It’s not a great tournament to watch, is it? Other than the dragon one, they don’t get to see underwater and they can’t see in the maze, so I don’t see what’s in it for the rest of the school?

Calling out the Triwizard Tournament, which drives the entire story, Kit Harington questioned how entertaining it was for viewers. Because according to him, apart from the dragon challenge, most of the action happens out of sight. With the second task taking place underwater and the final one hidden inside a maze, he wondered what exactly the rest of Hogwarts was supposed to be watching. Well, he ain’t wrong.

Kit Harington Joined Wizarding World After Fighting in Westeros

Meanwhile, his comments about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire come in the wake of Kit Harington joining the sprawling, magical universe of Harry Potter. Turns out, after ruling Westeros as Jon Snow, the actor has officially stepped into the Wizarding World, with Audible’s Harry Potter audiobook series

The table contains details on Audible’s Harry Potter release date:

Harry Potter Audiobook Release Date
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 4 November 2025
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 16 December 2025
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 13 January 2026
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 10 February 2026
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 10 March 2026
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 14 April 2026
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 12 May 2026

After the audiobook premiered in November 2025 with Sorcerer’s Stone, Harington joined the project for the adaptation of the second book, Chamber of Secrets, which was released in December 2025. Therein, Harington lends his voice to Gilderoy Lockhart, the vain, dramatic, and slightly tragic wizard who briefly teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Reflecting on his audition process, Harington told Variety

It’s very simple. They asked whether I wanted to play Lockhart. It was a really simple yes, because I love the character. As far as cameos in a series go, you don’t get much more entertaining and fun to do as an actor than Gilderoy Lockhart. It was a no-brainer.

He also added,

There was a part of me that was wondering, “Why have they come to me for Lockhart?” I didn’t want to go into why that was too much and why they thought that was my casting breakout. I got my recording done in a couple of days because he’s in Book Two, and then he reappears in Book Five briefly.

Previously, the role was famously played by Kenneth Branagh in the films. Overall, the audiobook series is stacked with major stars, where Matthew Macfadyen voices Voldemort, Keira Knightley plays Dolores Umbridge, Riz Ahmed steps in as Professor Snape, and James McAvoy takes on Mad-Eye Moody.

Despite the Flaws, Kit Harington Still Wishes to Join HBO Reboot

Now, despite already appearing in the audiobooks and pointing out plot holes in J.K. Rowling’s writing for Goblet of Fire, Kit Harington clearly hasn’t lost his love for Harry Potter. He may question the logic of the Triwizard Tournament, but his affection for the series is still very real. In fact, he’s open to joining the upcoming HBO reboot in any way possible.

Speaking with Variety, Harington made it clear that he isn’t picky about the role, in case HBO plans on hiring him. Whether it’s a major character or a background extra, he’s ready to jump in. After being a part of George R.R. Martin’s world of Westeros for a decade, Harington said, it’ll be a dream come true if he gets to be a part of the Wizarding World on screen.

I’d take on any of them. I’ll be a background extra, I don’t care. I would love to be in that.

Well, the British actor’s honesty feels refreshing, where he can laugh at the flaws, question the storytelling, and still want to be part of the magical franchise. Overall, fans would love to see Jon Snow walk the halls of Hogwarts someday.

Let us know which roles would suit Kit Harington in the world of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter films are currently streaming on HBO Max.
