After Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas’ breakup, rumors suggest that the superstar is being urged to pursue his Top Gun co-star, Meg Ryan. Undoubtedly, both A-listers would make a power couple, and their circles sure seem to think so, too.
A source told Radar Online, “There’s a growing feeling among people who know them well that Tom and Meg are unusually well matched, not just on paper but emotionally, too.”
Apparently, people in both Tom Cruise and Ryan’s circles are “gently trying to create opportunities for them to spend more time together.” While it is all quite “low-key” at the moment, their pairing makes a lot of sense to those around them who are quietly rooting for the couple.
The source added,
This isn’t some manufactured idea based on how it might look from the outside, or a nostalgic nod to their past. The people around them genuinely believe there’s something real there. Tom and Meg share a natural chemistry that’s always been present, along with an understanding of each other that only comes from having known one another for decades. That long history means they communicate easily, trust each other, and don’t need to pretend or impress in the way they might with someone new.
According to the insider, there has always been “an easy warmth” between Ryan and Cruise, and it all comes down to who will be willing to take the first step.

2. Dennis Quaid
Via InStyle, Ryan and Dennis Quaid first met while filming Innerspace (1987), but their romance only began when they starred in D.O.A.(1988). After dating for some time, the couple tied the knot in 1991 on Valentine’s Day. In 1992, their son Jack Quaid was born.
After almost a decade of marriage, Quaid and Ryan went their separate ways, and the actress found out the hard way what it was like being the Scarlet Woman. Rumors and speculations of infidelity on both their parts began making headlines, so much so that Ryan had to step in and clear the air.
She told W magazine (via E! News), “I found myself in a hotel lobby in London a few months ago thinking, all of a sudden, ‘So this is what it feels like to be the Scarlet Woman. Oh! I’m having that experience now!“
Speaking of the alleged infidelity, Ryan added,
Neither of us, me nor Dennis, is cavalier about a breakup. We both behaved very honorably–in our marriage and in our breakup. He never cheated on me. I can’t believe they’re saying that about him. Despite the fact that both Ryan and Cusack had come out of high-profile relationships with Crowe and actress Neve Campbell, the source close to them stated, “No one would be surprised if John pops the question.”
They reportedly caught feelings while working on the animated film, Anastasia, but their romance was short-lived.
5. Matthew Perry
Matthew Perry was quite open about his relationships with Hollywood’s A-listers, especially in his memoir. However, the one thing that remains a mystery is his reported romance with Ryan.
According to reports, they dated for a short while in 2007. While neither of the two ever addressed this supposed chapter of their love lives, an insider told AceShowbiz, “Neither knows where it’s going, but they love being together and are having fun.”
Apparently, Perry was so enamoured by Ryan that he sought out his FRIENDS co-star Courteney Cox for tips on how to talk to her children.
6. John Mellencamp
Ryan’s last known relationship was with singer-songwriter John Mellencamp. The two got together in 2011 after his split from his third wife, Elaine Irwin. They were first spotted together roaming around in New York City before taking a trip to Martha’s Vineyard a few months later (via US Weekly).
Their first breakup came in 2014. The following year, Ryan told Porter magazine that she was taking a break from love, adding, “I’m [in love] with my life right now in a way that I adore, with my kids, and my world. I love my age…“
During this time, Mellencamp began dating Christie Brinkley, but the two went their separate ways in 2016. Talking about his ex to Howard Stern, he stated that he was still in love with her, before adding, “[Ryan] hates me to death…[and] doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
Come 2017, the couple were spotted together again, and in 2018, they announced their engagement. A year later, Ryan stated, “Yes, I’m going to get married at some point. But for now, this engagement thing is a state of grace.”
Unfortunately, the engagement never turned into a wedding. The couple called it quits in October 2019, and a source told Us Weekly that Ryan had “had enough.”
Years later, Mellencamp told Esquire in 2023, “I love Meg Ryan. I went with her for ten years. She doesn’t love me so much. She’s a great girl. I’m just a sh*tty boyfriend.“
