The DOJ’s release of the latest batch of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein has sent tremors across the internet, and the discourse has fueled J.K Rowling‘s alleged connection with the s-x offender. The claims stem from reports that Epstein was extended an invitation to attend a Broadway production of Harry Potter. Amid the growing chatter, Rowling was quick to address the rumors, firmly stating that they have no basis in reality and denying any connection to the convicted s-x offender.
This is beyond silly. Neither I, nor anybody on my team, ever met, communicated with or invited Jeffrey Epstein to anything. https://t.co/JXhFlBQxsM

Although the files, which include several notable Hollywood figures and high-profile public names, do not explicitly state whether Rowling knew Epstein personally or not, that hasn’t stopped online speculation.
Was J.K. Rowling Linked to Jeffrey Epstein? What Reports Allege
The speculations stem from the alleged invitation that Jeffrey Epstein received for the Broadway opening of official Broadway opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on April 22, 2018, at the Lyric Theatre in New York.
Considering Epstein’s crimes were widely known by then, this has amplified the scrutiny surrounding Rowling, who claimed neither she nor any member of her team personally met or invited Epstein to anything. The supposed invitation read:
Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and J.K. Rowling invite you and a guest to the Official Broadway Opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I and II… Please join us for supper between parts and a party following Part Two, details to follow.
As per the unsealed files, the primary point of contact for the Broadway tickets was reportedly publicist Peggy Siegel’s firm (via AOL), which managed the guest list for the production, not Rowling herself. Moreover, the unsealed documents don’t display any personal link between Epstein and the author.
Another reported email exchange from the unsealed documents saw a sender, whose name is redacted, asking Epstein to introduce them to the controversial author, noting, “As you always know the top people in every field, maybe you could help me: I want to meet J.K. Rowling”. Again, this doesn’t clarify if Rowling had any personal connections with Epstein or not, as the sender appeared to be relying on his perceived influence rather than any confirmed relationship.
HBO’s Harry Potter Star Weighs in on J.K. Rowling’s Controversy
This isn’t the first time the controversial author has been subject to public scrutiny, as her stance on trans rights has sparked widespread criticism against Rowling from netizens and even former Harry Potter stars.
Interestingly, now, John Lithgow, who will play Albus Dumbledore in the HBO adaptation, has deemed Rowling’s anti-trans rhetoric as ironic and inexplicable when compared to the themes of her books. He further clarified about never met the author in person, stressing that she wasn’t really involved with the production at all (via Variety).
I take the subject extremely seriously. She has created this amazing canon for young people and it has jumped into the consciousness of the society. It’s about good versus evil, kindness versus cruelty. I find her views ironic and inexplicable. I’ve never met her, she’s not really involved in this production at all. But the people who are, are remarkable.
Coming back to her potential link to Epstein, again, there’s no substantial evidence to say anything for certain. But following Lithgow’s remarks, it appears the HBO remake might be distancing itself from the author.
