Ryan Reynolds crashed Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and he didn’t do it in red and black. Kevin Feige called on an audience member “with the swords” to ask the cast a question. Reynolds, in a seemingly black and gray Deadpool costume, introduced himself as Ricky.
He shared, “Longtime listener, first time caller. I’m a huge fan. I’m not wearing a Doom mask over this mask because I don’t want to ruin the lines of my Canadian tuxedo.” He then asked Paul Rudd where Thor was and why he was crying in Deadpool & Wolverine. Rudd shot back with a joke about Thor being a Wrexham fan, a dig at Reynolds’ own football club.
Reynolds then asked whether there was any additional photography left on Avengers: Doomsday, which was about as unsubtle a pitch as you can make. Told the film was already finished, he sulked out of Hall H. Reynolds confirmed afterwards on Instagram that it was really him. And surprisingly, it wasn’t a black and gray Deadpool costume.

It was a denim suit, and he called this version ‘Jeanpool’. And because the suit wasn’t his usual colour scheme, fans immediately started reading it as a tease. Here’s what it might actually mean.
Why Ryan Reynolds Wore the Jeanpool Costume to the Marvel SDCC Panel
Ryan Reynolds named the character himself on Instagram, calling him “Jeanpool,” and posted behind-the-scenes photos of the wardrobe change. He also set up the joke in the room, telling the crowd he wasn’t wearing a Doom mask over his Deadpool mask because he didn’t want to ruin the lines of his Canadian tuxedo.
For anyone who missed it, a Canadian tuxedo is denim-on-denim, and Reynolds is famously Canadian. So the suit is a gag, not a costume reveal. The point was the bit itself. Reynolds spent the whole appearance running an unofficial audition. He gushed about Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the cast, and eventually asked outright whether there was any filming left he could sneak into.
It is worth noting that the suit was mistakenly thought to be black and gray rather than denim, which linked the character to an interesting comic storyline.
Is the New Suit Teasing Ryan Reynolds’ Avengers: Doomsday Appearance?
Ryan Reynolds asked when Doomsday started filming and was told it was already done. He followed up asking about additional photography, overages, and last-minute additions, got nothing useful, and left. The entire premise of the sketch was a guy begging for a job he hadn’t got.
Now, it could be read as a direct bit, teasing Reynolds’ absence in the stacked Doomsday cast. But it makes no sense for Kevin Feige to bring him all the way to the SDCC panel without his involvement in any of the current projects. So, Avengers: Doomsday remains the most likely possibility for his appearance.
Marvel has never confirmed Deadpool for Doomsday. The first trailer gave fans a long look at the X-Men with no Deadpool anywhere. And speaking to Entertainment Weekly at Toronto last September, Reynolds said he hadn’t “stepped foot on set.” He added, “But, yeah, that’s about as far as I’ll go on that one.”
Is It Teasing Deadpool 4 Along With Wolverine’s Return?
Before the denim was confirmed, plenty of fans thought they were looking at something much bigger, and it’s worth explaining why. The suit resembled Deadpool’s black and gray outfit from the Uncanny X-Force run. In the Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña run launched in October 2010, Wolverine quietly ran a black-ops kill squad.
It included Psylocke, Fantomex, and Deadpool in matching black-and-grey uniforms. Fans read a grey suit as Marvel quietly teasing an X-Force-focused Deadpool movie, which would also hand Jackman’s Wolverine a clean reason to come back.
But the underlying idea isn’t dead even with the denim suit reveal. At Fanatics Fest in July 2026, Reynolds confirmed there will eventually be another Deadpool film. He shared, “There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics.”
He had also previously stated that his journey was over the moment he actually becomes an Avenger or an X-Man. A morally grey black-ops squad solves that problem neatly. It lets Deadpool run with mutants, which also ties neatly with Kevin Feige’s X-Men plan after Secret Wars.
