Jason Statham may have found his most dependable safety net away from theaters. Shelter, his first theatrical disappointment of 2026, earned only about $54.6 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, against a reported $50 million production budget listed by The Numbers. Once marketing costs and exhibitors’ share enter the equation, that is hardly the sort of theatrical result producers frame on the wall.
Streaming has written a far happier second chapter. On August 28, 2026, Shelter ranked No. 3 among movies on Amazon Prime worldwide, behind only The Last Sunrise and Masters of the Universe, according to FlixPatrol. Its page also records the movie spending 88 days in Amazon Prime’s Top 10 charts across tracked markets. That makes Mutiny’s future rather easy to read. Statham’s latest action thriller has already stumbled theatrically, but his audience scores suggest streaming viewers are likely to give it the rescue treatment too.
Shelter Found The Audience Theaters Missed
Shelter was never rejected by Statham’s core crowd. Its 64% critics’ score contrasts with an 87% verified audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which explains why its streaming resurgence feels less like an accident and more like delayed demand. Statham has developed a curious knack for this. Audiences gave The Beekeeper a 92% Popcornmeter score, while A Working Man earned 87%, despite considerably cooler critical scores. We can understand the appeal. His recent action movies ask very little ceremony from viewers: give Statham a grievance, several unfortunate henchmen, and enough room to start breaking furniture. That formula fits streaming remarkably well, where a movie does not need to persuade somebody to buy two cinema tickets and overpriced popcorn before the first punch arrives.
Mutiny Already Looks Built For a Comeback
Mutiny opened on August 21 and has earned roughly $17.1 million worldwide so far, according to the latest Box Office Mojo figures. The Associated Press described its opening as an underperformance, giving Statham another difficult theatrical result in the same year. Yet viewers are once again considerably warmer than critics. Jean-François Richet’s thriller currently has a 49% Tomatometer score but an 85% verified Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. That critic-audience gulf looks awfully familiar after Shelter.
There is no confirmed subscription-streaming date for Mutiny yet. Lionsgate’s own corporate filings confirm that its 2026 through 2028 film slates have been licensed to Amazon Prime for an exclusive window, while its Starz output arrangement also continues. The movie even appeared accidentally on Prime Video before its theatrical release and was quickly removed, as ComingSoon reported. Our bet is that Mutiny will become another Statham movie whose theatrical obituary looks premature once streaming numbers arrive.
