American Horror Story 13 Episodes 11-12 Recap: The Coven’s Plan Goes Horribly Wrong

Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains spoilers for American Horror Story: 13 Episodes 11-12.

American Horror Story: 13 is now just one week away from its big finale, and Episodes 11 and 12 did not hold back. The two episodes, titled Madison’s Happy Ending and Sisters in Arms, pick up right after Joey Pollari’s Ben fully embraced his place as the son of Satan. He showed up at Miss Robichaux’s Academy in New Orleans at the end of last week’s double episodes.

The witches were ready for a fight. Instead, Ben had a very different offer for them. The two episodes pack an unlikely romance, a family secret that ties together three of Jessica Lange‘s most iconic characters, and the coven’s boldest move yet against Mr. Nas.

But as always on Ryan Murphy‘s twisted horror show, nothing goes according to plan. The coven ends up suffering two terrible losses in the end after their plan to take down the Devil goes south. Here is what went down before the AHS: 13 finale.

Madison’s ‘Happy Ending’ Is With the Son of Satan?!!

Ben did not come to New Orleans to destroy the witches. He came to join them. After accepting his father’s deal, Ben gained the power to look inside Mr. Nas’ mind. What he found there changed everything. Satan had shaped his entire miserable life, from his rough childhood to the plane crash that started his downward spiral this season.

That anger unlocked his powers and pushed him toward the witches instead. Of course, the coven does not trust him right away. So Ben goes to hell and brings back the perfect peace offering. He freed Frances Conroy’s Myrtle Snow from her personal hell of working at a department store in Branson, Missouri.

While the others celebrate Myrtle’s return, Emma Roberts‘ Madison falls for Ben. The episode is told largely through her eyes, with a fun look back at her disastrous dating life. She tried a love spell and even decided to freeze her eggs, only to learn that just one egg could be saved.

Ben changes all that. He takes her on a magical dinner date in Italy, and the two grow close fast. He even admits to killing Ashley after finding out she had been plotting behind his back. Madison, being Madison, is not bothered one bit.

Still, one important question bugs her. If Ben can read his father’s mind, can Satan read his? Ben brushes it off and says he is choosing her over his father. As Madison puts it, her prince finally came, and he just happens to be the Prince of Darkness. However, Madison’s question proves to be relevant by the end of episode 12.

Jessica Lange’s Fiona and Constance Are Sisters in American Horror Story

Episode 12 delivers another major twist of the season. Myrtle and Fiona Goode finally reunite, and Myrtle brings some shocking news straight from hell. Fiona has an identical twin sister, and it is none other than Constance Langdon.

Even wilder, their mother is Sister Jude Martin from American Horror Story: Asylum, again played by Jessica Lange. According to Myrtle, the Devil visited Jude while she was locked up at Briarcliff, the very asylum she once ran. The twins were born from that dark encounter, which makes Satan their father.

After they were born, the sisters were split up. Baby Constance was sold to a couple in Virginia, while Pepper, of all people, took baby Fiona to Miss Robichaux’s in New Orleans. Myrtle also explains that Jude’s bloodline goes back to the Salem witches, which is where Fiona got the power that later made her the Supreme.

Myrtle wants no part of the fight ahead, so she brings the two sisters together instead. What follows is one of the wildest scenes in AHS history, with Lange playing both women in the same room. Constance and Fiona compare how differently their lives turned out, and Constance admits she never got any of their mother’s magic.

That gives Fiona an idea. Maybe their meeting is meant to awaken Constance’s hidden powers, giving the coven one more strong ally against their father. The reveal finally connects the show’s previous seasons. But longtime viewers will have to forgive the show for its timeline inconsistencies in tying up these characters’ backstories.

Marie Laveau’s Plan Goes Horribly Wrong

The twin reveal also hits Sarah Paulson‘s Cordelia hard. If Fiona is Satan’s daughter, then Cordelia carries his blood too. Angela Bassett‘s Marie Laveau helps her move past it, and the two get to work on a potion to stop Mr. Nas for good.

When Ben pushes them to hurry, Marie strikes a deal. She will speed things up only if Ben brings back Gabourey Sidibe’s Queenie from hell. He agrees, and Laveau’s plan is set.

Cordelia will drink the potion and steal the life force Mr. Nas has been collecting through his killings. That will turn him back into a helpless baby. Queenie will then take his power and call on the ancestors to trap him in hell forever. After that, the coven will have to watch over the baby for the rest of time.

Cordelia and Queenie admit how scared they are before heading to the Apollyon in New York, where Ben leads them to Mr. Nas’ bedroom. They had good reason to be.

Just as the ritual begins, Rubber Man attacks Queenie from behind, and Mr. Phibes stabs Cordelia in the back. Both are seemingly killed, while Ben is left frozen by his father. The finale airs October 29, and the coven has never looked weaker.
