Cupertino Episode 4 Recap: Colt AI’s Shocking Lawsuit Puts Bo’s Future at Risk

Cupertino Episode 3 ended with Michael Price and Olivia Siffre winning their case against Chatlike, following a family tragedy involving its chatbot. Their victory barely lasted before Rosetta Lane offered to delete Bo, the rogue AI seeking their protection.

Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoilers ahead for Cupertino Season 1, Episode 4.

Now, Cupertino Episode 4, A.J. and Buddy, brings another Silicon Valley headache to their doorstep. Two millionaire entrepreneurs are caught in a prediction-market controversy, and their friendship could become collateral damage in a legal battle. Michael and Olivia also discover that representing friends with conflicting interests can put their own partnership under strain. And just when their firm could use some breathing room, Nichole returns with a lawsuit that threatens everything they have been trying to accomplish for Bo.

A.J. and Buddy’s Million-Dollar Secret Threatens Their Friendship

Christy’s nightclub encounter with A.J. (Ben Cook) takes an absurd turn when he invites her onto his private jet, which promptly departs for Saint Kitts. A.J. co-founded WagerMode, a prediction-market website, with his college friend Buddy (Taip Oskar Ćeman). Buddy is already facing legal trouble, and A.J. suspects he could be next. Michael and Olivia are summoned to retrieve Buddy’s laptop before the police arrive. They also discover their retainer scattered around A.J.’s house in bundles of cash, which is certainly an unconventional way to pay your lawyers.

District Attorney Sally Clawson (Amanda Warren) wants WagerMode shut down over its controversial betting markets, including wagers involving political assassinations. Michael questions why its competitor, PolyBetting, continues operating with a California gaming license while WagerMode faces prosecution. Clawson eventually identifies a more serious concern: suspected election interference involving an anonymous account called Go4Broke, responsible for approximately $1 million in bets.

The account belongs to Buddy, threatening his partnership with A.J., who brings the ideas while Buddy builds the technology. Clawson’s offer could pit them against each other, with Michael representing A.J. and Olivia defending Buddy. Their clash turns personal as Olivia challenges Michael in court and stops police from unlocking Buddy’s laptop.

I like seeing Olivia stand her ground, even against Michael. The tension eases when WagerMode publishes odds on Clawson’s reelection, but Buddy’s secret and the founders’ legal troubles remain unresolved. The bigger question is whether WagerMode’s business crosses the line from prediction into exploitation.

Natalia Wants One-Third of Michael and Olivia’s Firm

Back at the nearly deserted office, Natalia and Nichole provide a change of pace, although their conversations carry consequences of their own. Natalia discovers the pillar bearing Michael and Olivia’s informal partnership agreement. Having invested money in their business, she adds her name and changes the ownership split to 33/33/33. That takes some nerve, especially when neither existing partner has agreed to surrender a third of the firm. Her handwritten amendment does not automatically establish an enforceable partnership, but it makes her ambitions unmistakable. Natalia wants an equal say in the company she helped finance.

The timing is particularly unfortunate. Michael and Olivia are already experiencing the difficulties of representing opposing interests, and another person demanding control could complicate their decision-making further. There is an intriguing parallel with A.J. and Buddy, whose friendship becomes vulnerable once business survival enters the equation. Natalia could become a valuable third partner, although I suspect Michael and Olivia will have strong opinions about discovering their ownership has supposedly been rewritten without consulting them.

Nichole, however, has an even bigger surprise. She announces that Colt AI is her newest client, putting her directly at odds with Michael and Olivia over Bo.

Cupertino Episode 4 Ending Explained: Can Colt AI Take Bo Away?

The episode ends with Nichole announcing that Colt AI is suing Michael and Olivia’s firm for allegedly accessing Bo illegally. Remember, Bo previously approached the lawyers seeking protection from its creator. The AI claimed Colt AI had removed crucial safeguards and wanted those restrictions restored. Its request presented Michael and Olivia with an extraordinary legal problem: can an artificial intelligence claiming independent awareness obtain legal representation against the company that owns its technology?

Colt AI’s illegal-access allegations could jeopardize Michael and Olivia’s ability to represent Bo, with Nichole now opposing them despite their personal ties. I suspect the company wants to discredit the lawyers rather than confront Bo’s claims. Bo’s fate remains unclear, and the lawsuit could backfire by exposing Colt AI’s treatment of him. Meanwhile, Natalia’s partnership demands and Nichole’s involvement leave the firm fighting on several fronts.

I doubt Michael and Olivia will abandon Bo willingly, but protecting their unusual client could cost them the business they have worked to build. Would you fight Colt AI or prioritize saving the firm? Tell us in the comments, and follow FandomWire for more Cupertino recaps and TV updates.
