Sid Baker survives another Russian hunt on Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 4, but trusting Diana Taverner leaves her in worse trouble than another bullet ever could.
Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 3 brought Sid back with three missing years, an MI5 cover-up, and a mysterious Kazan connection. With Jim and Jane hunting River, Sid, and Coe, River already suspected Taverner knew more than she admitted. Lost and Found gives him good reason to worry. Sid still trusts Diana, but River and Coe don’t, and that faith soon costs someone dearly.
River and Sid Cannot Shake Their Russian Hunters

River, Sid, and Coe take refuge inside a bowling alley, where Sid remains hell-bent on contacting Taverner. Getting to a payphone becomes absurdly difficult, and Sid eventually invents a story about searching for her mentally ill brother to persuade the reluctant employee. It would almost be funny if Jim and Jane weren’t closing in while she talks. Jane murders the clerk and opens fire, forcing the trio to flee again. River gets shot through the hand, but Sid’s determination to reach Taverner barely wavers. Their next refuge is a shopping center, where River tends to his wound while Coe disappears into the gaming area.
Sid’s loyalty to Diana frustrated me here because River has already handed her plenty of reasons to question it. Yet I also understand why she clings to that relationship. Taverner contacted her during those hidden years after her recovery, which makes Diana one of the few links between Sid’s old life and the strange existence MI5 built for her. That trust is about to cost her dearly. Coe spots Jim entering a bathroom and follows him, apparently thinking he can settle the problem himself. Their vicious knife fight also gives Coe one crucial answer before things go south: Jim identifies himself as GRU, Russia’s military intelligence service.
River later finds Coe’s bloodied body.
Lamb Finds Frank’s Boss as Coe Pays the Price

Jackson Lamb is chasing a different branch of the same conspiracy, although his investigation finally puts a name above Frank Harkness. Andrew Nesmith’s son Reece uses his father’s burner phone to threaten the person who hired Andrew to steal the physical Slough House file. That man turns out to be media mogul Damien Cantor. Cantor sends Frank to handle the problem, but Lamb arrives at the meeting instead.
Their encounter becomes even messier when Reece gets himself caught after sneaking out to eavesdrop. Lamb eventually manufactures enough public chaos to escape, while Reece takes the rather audacious route of accusing Frank of touching him inappropriately so he can scarper too. Emma Flyte then becomes useful much faster than she probably expected after being demoted to Slough House. Since Frank doesn’t recognize her, Lamb sends Flyte to tail him, and she confirms that he is working for Cantor.
Taverner’s earlier appearance on Cantor’s network now looks even more suspicious. Meanwhile, Catherine, Shirley, Louisa, and Moira discover Lamb’s ‘safehouse’ is actually Diana’s family vacation home. Of course it is. Turning the First Desk’s property into free Slough House lodging is peak Lamb, and I’d love to see Diana’s reaction.
Did Sid Survive Diana’s Secret Russian Deal?

Yes, Sid survives Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 4, but the ending leaves her in Russian hands. The real betrayal begins when Vassily contacts Taverner. Their conversation confirms that Sid’s identity was used in connection with the killing of a GRU operative in Kazan. Vassily wants retribution and also claims influence over Damien Cantor, whose financial relationship with Diana gives him another lever to pull.
He offers Taverner a brutal bargain: hand over Sid Baker, and the Russians will stop killing Slough House agents and Dogs. Diana agrees. When Sid finally manages to contact her, Taverner has the call traced instead of rescuing her. Jane reaches Sid first, and although Sid fights back, Jim joins the struggle and the assassins overpower her. They bundle her into Coe’s car and drive away. River reaches the aftermath too late, finding Coe dead and Sid gone.
So the headline answer comes with a nasty caveat: Sid is alive, but Diana has effectively traded her life for everyone else’s. I’m not convinced Taverner has resigned herself to letting Sid die. Diana has made appalling calculations before, yet agreeing to the exchange could also buy her time to devise another move. Still, Sid spent the episode trusting the woman River warned her about, and Episode 4 makes that faith look dangerously misplaced.
The larger question is whether River can reach Sid before Vassily collects his payment. After losing Coe and watching Sid get dragged away, I doubt he will be interested in following Regent’s Park protocol. Will Taverner double-cross Vassily before Sid reaches the Russians, or has she genuinely decided that sacrificing one agent is worth saving everyone else?
