Hogwarts is restocking its library just as HBO prepares to reopen the castle doors. Bloomsbury has officially announced two new Harry Potter companion books for 2027: Pocket Potters: Professor McGonagall and Pocket Potters: Fred and George Weasley. Both publish on February 23, 2027, extending the illustrated collection into two corners of Hogwarts tailor-made for stern looks and spectacular rule-breaking. Bloomsbury’s official announcement confirms the additions and preorders.
These are not new novels or sequels to J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga. Pocket Potters are compact, full-color character guides containing memorable story moments, quotations, facts, hidden details, and Easter eggs. The official Wizarding World describes the line as accessible to younger readers without leaving seasoned Potterheads empty-handed.
Their arrival is cannily timed. HBO’s lavish television reboot debuts this Christmas, meaning Bloomsbury’s newest books will land while a fresh generation is discovering McGonagall and the Weasleys on screen.
McGonagall and the Twins Take the Page

Pocket Potters: Professor McGonagall puts Hogwarts’ formidable Transfiguration professor under the magnifying glass. Bloomsbury teases answers about why McGonagall buys Harry his first broomstick, which animal she can transform into, and what makes someone a Hatstall. Bloomsbury’s official McGonagall listing confirms the February 23 publication and contents.
The companion volume trades discipline for delightful anarchy. Pocket Potters: Fred and George Weasley revisits the twins’ uncanny knowledge of Hogwarts’ secret passages, their Canary Creams, magical pranks, and the entrepreneurial mischief that eventually produced Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Both belong to a rapidly expanding collection. The first wave introduced Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, with different illustrators giving each character a distinct visual identity.
The strategy is rather shrewd. Instead of asking a child encountering Hogwarts through HBO to immediately tackle hundreds of pages, Pocket Potters offer a smaller door into the same castle.
HBO’s Harry Potter Release: Everything We Know

The screen side of the Wizarding World is considerably closer than it once appeared. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will debut at Christmas 2026 on HBO and stream exclusively on HBO Max where available. The official Harry Potter site confirmed the updated window alongside the new teaser.
| Detail | HBO’s Harry Potter |
| Release window | Christmas 2026 |
| Streaming | HBO Max |
| Harry | Dominic McLaughlin |
| Hermione | Arabella Stanton |
| Ron | Alastair Stout |
| Dumbledore | John Lithgow |
| McGonagall | Janet McTeer |
| Snape | Paapa Essiedu |
| Hagrid | Nick Frost |
The new trio emerged from a gargantuan casting search. Around 30,000 young performers auditioned before Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout became Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod praised their chemistry and called their talent “wonderful to behold.”
The February books have an especially neat connection to HBO’s supporting cast. Janet McTeer inherits Professor McGonagall, while real-life brothers Tristan and Gabriel Harland play Fred and George Weasley. Ruari Spooner joins them as Percy and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny. HarryPotter.com confirmed the Weasley siblings from the Leavesden set. Production is being led by Gardiner, with Mylod directing multiple episodes. David Heyman, who produced all eight original films, is also an executive producer, providing an unusually sturdy bridge between the old Hogwarts and the new one.
The reboot is being pitched as a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s novels, with each season bringing their characters and details to a new audience while the original films remain part of the franchise. That makes Bloomsbury’s timing sharper than a freshly honed quill. Viewers will meet a new McGonagall and new Weasley twins at Christmas; two months later, those same characters receive illustrated literary spotlights. HBO is rebuilding Hogwarts on screen. Bloomsbury is making sure the path back to the page is waiting outside.
