“Stop prioritizing realism over fun”: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Comes Under Fire for ‘Gatekeeping’, With Some Fans Desperate for Treyarch to Listen About 1 Perk

Even since the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the anticipation by the players has been very high. The game is set to launch on October 25th and as the day is coming closer any information about the game is researched and discussed by the whole community.

With the integration of Black Ops 6 with Warzone, the battle royale will also see a lot of changes. However, not every information about the game has made players happy. Recently, one piece of information has made players question whether the developers want them to have fun.

Treyarch is trying to make Black Ops 6 more competitive and realistic by drawing more inspiration from the original Call of Duty Black Ops titles. This decision is like a double-edged sword as it not only brings old yet innovative features into the game but also removes some of the features players came to love in the recent titles.

This double nature was shown in the recent release of the information about the new Warzone features. The news explained that the Unlimited Tac Sprint is going to become a perk and players need to put in their loadout to use it. After hearing this, players are not happy about this decision as it not only hinders their gameplay but also makes them waste 1 perk slot for basic mechanics.

Some players are saying this is one way of gatekeeping basic mechanics.

While some are confused as to why this is not a default perk, to begin with.

The community is angry and asking developers various questions. For many, this feels like Treyarch is trying to gatekeep mechanics to make the game feel more realistic. But that’s where it is losing the players as most of them are here to enjoy the fluid gameplay.

Treyarch Needs to Balance Realism and Gameplay Fluidity

The developers need to start listening to player feedback and implement changes accordingly. The pressure on Black Ops 6 is already high as previous titles have not delivered on its promises.

For most players, the essence of gaming is all about its ability to make them experience thrills and challenges not possible in the real world. By forcing players to sacrifice a perk slot for a simple ability like Tac Sprint, Treyarch is potentially compromising the main essence of playing the game.

This can alienate the players who like fluid gameplay and mechanics over realism. As Treyarch is trying to navigate through this player feedback, it needs to realize that realism is great in camping mode as players are placed in someone else’s shoes.

But in a fast-paced and chaotic battle royale, limiting basic mechanics is going to hurt them in the long run. In the end, developers need to learn that innovation is crucial but it should never come at the cost of the player experience.
