“He goes straight for the kill”: Does Akainu Deserve His Insanely High Bounty When Garp is Only at 3 Billion?
The Cross Guild has become a major player in One Piece as a direct threat to the World Government. Led by the trio of Crocodile, Mihawk, and Buggy, the pirates have introduced a whole new bounty system that now applies to Marines. This means even the World Government and the Marines wouldn’t be safe. The worst criminals would be hunting them down and they’d have to go into hiding. However, there’s one Marine in all of One Piece who deserves to get this bounty on them and it’s Akainu.
The Fleet Admiral of the Marines would’ve obviously gotten the highest bounty from the Cross Guild which now surpasses the likes of Monkey D. Garp, the Hero of the Marines, which fans find hard to believe.
It can be argued that perhaps being in the Marines for a longer period of time should’ve given a higher bounty on those who it applies to, namely Garp. While Akainu is a major threat in One Piece, Garp must be the type of Marine to create an example out of for the Cross Guild if they stay in a corrupt organization for that long. Still, Akainu has the highest at a staggering five million berries.
Akainu Is A Bigger Threat Than Any Marine Or Pirate
Throughout the events of One Piece, even during the flashbacks, Akainu has proven to be too extreme and radical. He’s been deluded by his view of “thorough justice,” pursuing it by any means. The horrific Annihilation of Ohara was the most damning evidence against him. He was one of the Five Admirals leading the Buster Call against Ohara without so much as blinking an eye at the casualties it would cause for innocent citizens. He destroyed an evacuation ship full of citizens. Even Aokiji was disgusted by this order of his.
The pursuit of justice blinded him a long time ago with his hatred for pirates or any illegal activities making him this monster. His actions during the Marineford Arc have made him a deeply hated character, with a few defenders still remaining. Provoking and killing Ace was the tip of the iceberg but he also executed any Marine fleeing the battle in hopes of seeing their family again.
He was ready to kill Koby for pleading for an end to the bloodshed since all they were here for was Ace’s execution. If it wasn’t for Shanks, we would’ve also lost Koby. His actions are clearly too extremist, even his fellow Admirals were fed up.
Why Akainu’s Bounty Deserves 5 Million Berries
He reached the ladder and became Fleet Admiral only very recently in One Piece. Since his position is the highest rank within the Marines, it only makes sense the Cross Guild would put that much weight on his bounty. His command of the Marines would make him a huge threat that even Aokiji fought him for the part and then didn’t want to be a part of his reign.
His Devil Fruit also makes him a significantly powerful person in the One Piece universe. There aren’t many powers that could defeat the likes of pure magma. One side of Punk Hazard is permanently engulfed in flames and magma, suggesting that Akainu might’ve awakened it too. There’s no telling what he will do in the Final Saga and if he’ll ultimately side with Imu’s more extremist plans for the world.
