“He’s not at that level yet”: Oda May Not Have Made Kaido the Greatest, but He Squarely Beats Loki in ‘Aura Moment’ That Can’t Be Recreated in One Piece

The villains of One Piece have varying but iconic introductions. Blackbeard’s first physical appearance during the Jaya Arc was goofy, with him munching on berry pie and arguing with Luffy over their taste in food. On the other hand, we have Dracule Mihawk arriving in his gothic coffin boat.

However, the one villain whose introduction stood out in One Piece, after years of foreshadowing, was Kaido. The former Emperor and oppressive ruler of Wano appeared in the Dressrosa Arc, falling 10,000 meters from Ballon Terminal, a sky island, without a single scratch.

It’s needless to say his true physical appearance was nothing like the silhouette we saw in the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. This is true for one other antagonist who had an arguably goofier silhouette: Loki.

We saw Loki’s physical appearance in chapter 1130 of One Piece but the Prince was first mentioned in the Whole Cake Island Arc. His real form surprised fans, now arguing that his debut rivals Kaido’s, considering he might also be stronger.

Loki might be more powerful but no one can beat how iconic Kaido’s introduction was

In chapter 1130, Luffy goes to the “Underworld” and meets Loki, the Accursed Prince of Elbaph. He is revealed to be imprisoned in Seastone chains and blindfolded but with a menacing smile on his face that reminds you eerily of Donquixote Doflamingo.

His debut caused chills across the One Piece fandom. Nobody expected him to be an antagonistic person, although that remains debatable with the presence and purpose of Figarland Shamrock and Gunko. Loki has become the focus of One Piece theories as of late.

Some fans argue that his debut left a deeper impression than Kaido’s, while others believe this isn’t true. While Loki’s debut is undeniably impressive, Kaido also landed from the sky without a single injury. That’s hard to forget.

While it could be a case of recency bias, Kaido does have the stronger introduction but with the least amount of pay-off. Loki is a fresh slate, we still don’t know if he’s a villain or not. He’s a mystery to be unraveled.

Will Loki be stronger than Kaido?

Some fans seem to be using Kaido’s reveal to argue he is still the strongest. However, considering how one-dimensional Kaido turned out to be, it isn’t fair to use that as an indication. Loki has shown more personality in 9 chapters than Kaido did in 100+ chapters.

We don’t know enough about Loki’s strength yet. However, we can conclude it’s an overwhelming power if the strongest army in the world is afraid of him. They had to imprison him just to deal with him, warning others of his power and needing Shanks’ help. Even Scopper Gaban seems shaken up by him.

It’s implied the Prince has a Mythical Zoan Fruit, just like Kaido’s Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. Once it does get revealed, it will still be hard to compare the two characters. If Luffy’s Gear 5 form has trouble with him, the power-scaling might lean in Loki’s favor.

One Piece is available on Crunchyroll and VIZ Media.
