While SNL is usually a hoot and a half, they had to obviously take things to the next level for their 50th birthday special, and let’s just say that they did not disappoint. Check out 5 hilarious moments from the special below.

1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her dog

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunited for SNL and we probably should have expected some hilarious bits coming our way. The women are just effortless like that. During their “Q&A” segment, a Jon Lovitz fan asked why he was seated “across the street at the American Girl store” to which Poehler replied that his seat ended up being taken by Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ “service dog.”

“Yeah, sorry, Jon, it’s a medical thing. You really need that dog, right, Julia?” To this, Louis-Dreyfus, whose comedic timing is absolute perfection, replied, “Oh no, no, no. I’m here for him. He’s blind.” This, combined with her blatantly flirting with Adam Driver, definitely deserved a spot on this list!

Unforgettable!

2. Meryl Streep flips off Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer

Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer reprised their roles as the fictional Altadena Middle School music teachers Marty and Bobbi Mohan-Culp. They “called out” the fact that they could see middle fingers in the “upper mezzanine and orchestra section,” calling it all “unbelievably rude.”

Gasteyer then specifically called out Meryl Streep, who was sitting with her Only Murders in the Building co-star, Martin Short, to flip the camera off.

Streep’s effortless way of stealing the spotlight with the flick of her wrist caused the entire audience to erupt into laughter.

3. Adam Driver and Maya Rudolph’s hilarious cosplay

As John Mulaney took the crowd through the five-decade-long journey of New York City, little did we expect to see Adam Driver dressed up as a hot dog, belting his heart out. When Mulaney asked Driver and Maya Rudolph, who was cosplaying a Heroin needle, to describe New York, they sang to the tune of Fame, and it went like, ” This whole city is going to hell..Trash and urine is all you can smell. I’m living in Shame! You’re gonna get shot in a taxi! You’re gonna get stabbed on the train!”

Check out a snippet from the skit:

Driver as a hot dog was the last thing on our 2025 checklist but hey, we aren’t complaining, he kinda pulls it off.

4. Pedro Pascal makes his debut as Domingo’s brother

Marcello Hernández’s Domingo is now a big part of the SNL lore and he reprised his role for the fiftieth birthday celebration, but this time, he brought his hot brother Renaldo (Pedro Pascal) to the party. The wedding bit included Sabrina Carpenter‘s Sophie serenading the bride with her squad.

At one point, Sophie and Renaldo perform the parody of Espresso in which he outs the groom as bisexual. He sings, “Came all this way, had to explain, direct from Renaldo. Matthew’s my guy. Said he’s not bi, but we did hook up though.

Why did Pascal eat that up, though? And let’s not even talk about Carpenter’s moves!

5. Ryan Reynolds’ cheeky joke

Amidst the entire Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal drama, it looks like Ryan Reynolds still has it in him to take a joke. During Poehler and Fey’s segment, the actor stands up to ask them a question. When asked how things have been, he replied, “Great…why, what have you heard?”

Of course, this was a jab at the controversy that has recently surrounded him and his wife. Well, at least he sees the humor in it all.

Well, there you go. These were just a few moments from SNL50 that really made us laugh out loud. Which one was your favorite?
