Paramount+’s 1923 Season 2 Episode 6 Recap: Why Does Father Renaud Kill Marshall Kent?
The short answer is that Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) is a hypocrite. How else would you describe a man who beats and abuses Indigenous children? However, he has issues with Kent because his task is to bring in a murderer, not kill innocent people along the way.
We find out that U.S. Marshal Kent kills Runs His Horse. While Kent is standing over the young man, he makes racist remarks that the priest does not appreciate. Kent, who has no filter, curses the French priest. Father Renaud pulls out a pistol and shoots the marshal in the stomach, then in the chest after Kent tries to pull his weapon.
While lying on the ground, Renaud shoots Kent in the head, spraying blood across the prairie grass fields. The unforgiving man of God then says, “Now you go scream with the devils.”
1923 Season 2 Episode 6 Recap: Why Does Jacob Tell Jack To Stay Behind?
Jacob tells Jack (Darren Mann) to stay behind because he has a baby on the way. Jacob takes a few men into town to sit at the train station and ensure Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) arrives safely, including Sheriff McDowell (Robert Patrick). In the meantime, Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) tells Banner (Jerome Flynn) to gather some men to kill Spencer and the rest of the Duttons.
However, as Jack heads down to Bozeman, he hears some men approaching. He hides in the woods, but the men with badges tell him to come out. Jack assumes they are friends. They ask about Spencer, and the young Dutton proudly tells them there is no better shot than Spencer and that he is a close second.
One of the men, recruited by Banner, pulls his gun and shoots Jack twice. Jack is dead. They drag his body off into the woods, along with his saddle. Jack’s horse walks off into the fog, just as devastated as we are.
Paramount+’s 1923 Season 2 Episode 6 Ending Explained: How Does Teonna Kill Father Renaud?
1923 Season 2, Episode 6 ends with Teonna Rainwater killing Father Renaud! The “bad” father sneaks up on Teonna and Hank as they sleep by the campfire. Hank sees him coming and pulls his pistol, but the man of God kills him. He begs Teonna to repeat his prayer to save her soul, but she refuses. He pulls the trigger, but he is out of bullets.
Teonna grabs hot coals and smashes Renaud in the face. While his face lights up like embers, she stabs him several times in the torso, back, and neck. He dies. Teonna then cries for Hank. Meanwhile, Alexandra makes a grave mistake, as her naive saviors think driving her to Montana in the middle of winter is a viable option. Along the way, they stop for gas.
A woman warns them not to go, but they refuse. During freezing weather, while driving in a storm, she falls asleep. When she wakes up, Hilary has frozen to death, and she can see the husband lying on the ground, apparently while seeking help. She is left in the middle of the frozen wilderness with no gas in the car. Spencer’s bride is most likely going to die.
