Chris Hemsworth Wasn’t Wrong When He Said He Would Kick Dwayne Johnson’s Ass When It Comes to Action

There is no shortage of muscle-bound heroes in Hollywood who are ready to save the world against all odds. Chris Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson are at the top of this list, and they have dominated the box office by wielding mythical hammers and battling jungle beasts.
They are both known for having sculpted physiques and being a part of mega franchises. To top it all off, we are also enamored by their charismatic persona, on and off the screen. But what happens when these two icons are put side by side?
In a world where fans love to debate who’s stronger, faster, or more bankable, Hemsworth himself has weighed in with his opinion. But is he right? Let’s look at who wins when it comes to their box office firepower!
Chris Hemsworth believes he is better than Dwayne Johnson
In Vanity Fair’s lie detector segment, Chris Hemsworth was diplomatic about most of his answers. However, halfway through the interview, he was posed with a challenging question. The outlet slid a picture of Dwayne Johnson and asked Hemsworth if he believes that he is a better action hero than The Rock.
The actor was humble at first and avoided giving any straight answers. He spoke about how action stars are charming and have the physicality for performing stunts and sequences, a description that applies to both Hemsworth and Johnson. But then he was also shown a picture of Jason Momoa.
Hemsworth chuckled to himself and declared that he could kick both their asses, and immediately clarified that he meant it in real terms, as in he could take them down if they were to break into a fight. His cheeky comment now has people’s attention because we can’t really see them challenge each other in a physical match, but the most we can do is compare their box office results and see who rises on top.
Box office showdown: Chris Hemsworth vs. Dwayne Johnson
Before comparing, let’s not forget the kind of movies that these two powerhouses star in. Chris Hemsworth’s bread and butter is Marvel, a franchise that basically prints money, where he plays a cosmic god, equally skilled in battle and banter. On the other hand, Dwayne Johnson has built a career on the legacy of Fast & Furious and Jumanji.
So, a common factor in both their careers is relying on big franchises, but Marvel gives Hemsworth a massive edge. The Thor actor has starred in one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, i.e., Avengers Endgame, which earned a jaw-dropping figure of $2.75 billion worldwide (via The Numbers). His other MCU ventures, like Infinity War and The Avengers, pulled in $2.04 billion and 1.51 billion, respectively.
Dwayne Johnson’s biggest hit, Furious 7, brought in $1.51 billion, followed by The Fate of the Furious at $1.23 billion (via The Numbers). These numbers are monstrous but still fall short in comparison to Marvel’s top dogs. However, one movie that surprised everyone was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, as it raked in $961 million worldwide.
So, if we compare the pure stats of their highest-grossing films, Hemsworth is slightly ahead of Johnson. Their box-office success reveals that both of them are titans in their own right, but due to Chris Hemsworth’s involvement in the MCU, he’s earned the right to throw a playful jab.
