The Automatons are one of the many enemy types in Helldivers 2 and consist of various subclasses. Of these, the Devastators are particularly known to be quite deadly – laying waste to countless hordes of careless Helldivers.
These enemies are also quite frequently featured during Automation operations, and players should expect to be used to them by now. Taking them down is no easy feat though – given their armored exteriors.

Where to find Devastators in Helldivers 2
Devastators, for better or worse, are incredibly easy to find (and encounter). They usually spawn during a bot mission and can be present across all in-game difficulties (Trivial to Helldive).
The best way to identify one, however, is by keeping an eye on your mini-map. Spots marked with a white hexagonal icon, with a black arrow at its center indicate Devastators. They can also be marked using a similar, hexagonal orange icon – but with a split robot head at its center instead.

How to defeat a Devastator easily in Helldivers 2
Defeating a Devastator is, unfortunately, no easy task. Much like playing a first-person shooter, the key here is taking cover to shoot at enemies from time to time. Assuming you are being shot at by a Devastator, try to get cover as soon as possible – these enemies can hit hard.
The best way to deal with these enemies, (like with most other shooter games) is to aim for their heads. This makes all the more sense considering that the head is the least armored part of their makeup, and as such, headshots will be vastly superior in comparison.
Additionally, keep in mind that not all Automatons in Helldivers 2 are built the same – certain variants are more deadly, possessing a lot more armor, which can be quite difficult to take down.
Try using Shotguns or other heavy-firing weapons to peel off chunks of their armor, to both slow them down and rid them of their weaponry. Sluggers are particularly very effective, capable of even stunning Devastators – allowing you to push in some extra damage.
Explosives can also be quite useful here – as are Stratagems, used for raining death from above.
Make sure to steer clear of the bot army while dealing with Devastators. Their numbers can be overwhelming, so try taking cover from time to time. Also, make sure to carry long-range weapons, short-range weapons are incredibly dangerous to use here.
