“Guts kidnaps Sonia, forces her to read his mind”: The Perfect Berserk Ending We Wanted From Kentaro Miura

The world of manga was left in utter despair as the legendary mangaka, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021, at the age of 54. Because of that, he couldn’t even finish his signature work, Berserk, which is arguably the best-written piece of fiction to ever exist.
While Miura’s friend and fellow artist Kouji Mori stepped in to continue the series, you can still feel there’s something off. That unmistakable touch of Miura that made Berserk, “Berserk,” is nowhere to be found.
However, ever since then, many fans have tried to come up with their own interpretation of how Miura must have planned the ending. Recently, one such fan theory has popped up, and quite surprisingly, it has also resonated deeply with the community. This homemade conclusion might just be the perfect sendoff for Guts’ epic storyline.
Guts could use Sonia’s powers to turn her against Griffith
We already know how powerful Sonia is, and it’s certainly scary that even she is on Griffith’s side. But here comes the twist. According to the theory, it’s highly possible that Guts could somehow manipulate Sonia into turning against Griffith, using her own powers against her!
Now, this doesn’t just sound cool, this is also exactly how Miura has long been operated. Apparently, he loved these kinds of epic confrontation scenes, and wouldn’t it be the most fitting way for Guts’ ultimate goal to destroy Griffith’s dream of ruling a kingdom? But how would it all play out?

Imagine Guts kidnaps Sonia and forces her to read his mind! She will then be forced to go through his darkest memories of the Eclipse. She’ll realise the traumatic weight of that fateful night, and it might just be enough to make her destroy Falconia, Griffith’s kingdom!
As far as we’ve noticed in the series, Sonia might be a follower of Griffith, but she also has a sense of justice. So, if Sonia gets to know all behind the scenes, it’s likely the Falcon of Light would be the first thing to go down. Now, doesn’t this sound a bit too perfect for the ending of Berserk?
This fan ending, however, loses the charm of Miura’s unpredictability
The more we try to speculate about potential plot twists or the ending of the series, the more it takes away from the unpredictability that made Miura’s Berserk so thrilling. Miura has never disappointed his readers with all the infamous twists and turns the series has. Which is exactly why, if we’re able to piece together possible conclusions, it somewhat diminishes its shock value.
At the end of the day, it’s all about accepting the harsh truth: Miura surely had a plethora of plot developments planned, and we’ll never get to see them come to fruition. You might think the continuation by Kouji Mori is quite commendable, but it can never be compared to Miura’s original work.
However, while Mori’s doing his best to keep the series true to its roots, it’s we who should support his work, as Miura himself trusted him for this project. The beauty of Berserk lies in its ability to defy expectations, and while this particular fan theory is certainly exciting, it can’t replace the genius that Miura brought to the table.
The Berserk manga is currently available to read on Dark Horse Comics.
