Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are from very different worlds. Where one is in the film industry, the other is the lead singer of Coldplay. Despite this, both seemed to have had a very contented and happy relationship. They first sparked rumors of being involved with each other in 2017.
Since then, their relationship seems to have been on-and-off for eight years, being spotted together several times during this time. In 2022, Johnson was attending a Zoom call for a virtual interview for her 2022 Sundance Film Festival movie, Cha Cha Real Smooth. During this, she ended up facing some technical difficulties, and Martin stepped in to save her (via Billboard).
While this cameo was certainly heartwarming, it was nothing compared to what the singer did during one of his concerts. At a concert for his band, he ended up dedicating his song My Universe to Johnson, saying, “This is about my universe, and she’s here,” before he played it (via People).
People even reported that the two have been engaged for years but weren’t in any rush to get married. While fans have been fawning over their romance, it seems to have come to an end, and it could not be more tragic.

The stars were spotted just two weeks ago in Malibu together. Before that, Johnson accompanied Martin as his band toured in India, being photographed together several times as they explored the country. Despite seeming very strong from the outside, it was reported by People that the couple had split after being together for eight years.
While one could argue these are just rumors, there is some reason to believe it to be true. In the past, when there have been rumors about anything along similar lines, reps from either side are quick to shut them down. Most famously, in August of 2024, Johnson’s rep actually denied these rumors and claimed that the two were happier than ever.
However, there has been no comment on the matter from either side, forcing fans to believe that the claims are true. Sources close to the situation also claim that “It feels final this time,” making it all the more believable.
