Wicked: For Good’s Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Bag Originals From Pocahontas Composer

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took the silver screen by storm when they appeared as the witches Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked back in November 2024. While just half a year stands between now and the release of Wicked: For Good, we cannot help but share the good news surrounding the second installment of the fantasy series.

After wooing the audience with the soulful renditions of the original Wicked musical scores in the first film, Erivo and Grande are back in the melody scene. The upcoming movie will reportedly feature two original tracks composed by the Pocahontas composer, Stephen Schwartz, in addition to tracks from the musical.

Ahead of the release of the trailer for Wicked: For Good, the good news around Oz is that both Erivo and Grande bagged two brand new songs (one each) for Wicked: For Good

The second installment of the fantasy drama, Wicked: For Good is coming to the theaters on November 21, 2025. Before the trailer for the same hits the web, it has been revealed that the audience will be getting two extra doses of original soundtracks composed by the original Wicked composer, Stephen Schwartz (via Vanity Fair).

Director Jon M. Chu recently opened up about the two latest additions to the tracklist of the second film adaptation of the Broadway musical. Without giving away much, Chu teased that they “have two new songs” in the movie composed by Schwartz. He added,

They’re great additions to this movie. They were necessary in this movie to help tell the story. To have Stephen Schwartz back behind the keys… it’s pretty extraordinary to watch him work.

Schwartz – who has previously composed the songs of Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Enchanted (2007), and Disenchanted (2022) – has come on board to compose two original scores for the Wicked: For Good.

The first film had magnificent compositions, including “Defying Gravity,” “What Is This Feeling,” and “The Wizard and I.” However, Chu shared that the second installment will have some more “bangers,” as it will not only have older songs but also brand new tracks.

Chu confirmed that the second act would have the original tracks like “Thank Goodness” and “For Good.” He continued to gush,

‘No Good Deed’ is just a f***ing banger. I don’t even know how to use safe words for that. Cynthia on that thing is just ridiculous. And ‘As Long as You’re Mine’—it’s just gorgeous.

With two new tracks on board, coupled with the classic ones, the track list of Wicked: For Good surely looks like a “banger.’ Pity, the film can’t open sooner in the theaters.

Stephen Schwartz shared the songs with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande at their first meeting

In his interview, Jon M. Chu further said that Schwartz first gave Ariana Grande and Erivo their songs after meeting them for the first time. He recalled that when he first met with the two leading ladies, they went to his house, where they belted out a soulful rendition of “For Good” on his piano. He continued,

The other half of the story that we never tell is that Stephen played their songs for them for the first time there as well.

After adding that each of the witches will receive their own songs, Chu continued to recall events from that day. He shared,

He’s sitting there, and he is like, ‘Would you guys like to hear the songs I’m thinking of for you?’ And they were like, ‘Yes, please.’

And that was it. With spontaneous music, a soulful, melodious evening was wrapped up. At the end, Erivo and Grande emerged victorious as they both emerged with one unique song each. The onus is upon us now to wait (patiently) for Wicked: for Good to hit the theaters in November.

Wicked: For Good is releasing in November in the USA. Meanwhile, Wicked (2024) is currently streaming on Peacock in the USA.
