Helldivers 2’s newest patch, Into the Unjust 4.1.0, has officially brought back the Rupture Strain after a five-week hiatus. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has completely reworked these new Terminid enemies to make them fairer, more readable, and, most importantly, more fun to fight. So let’s take a look at all the changes.
Alongside over 200 bug fixes and broad balance updates, the Rupture Strain changes are some of the most player-requested improvements in months. So let’s break down everything that’s changed with the Rupture Strain and how these changes will change how we fight against the game’s most divisive enemy faction.
All Major Rupture Strain Changes in Helldivers 2 Update 4.1.0

The Rupture Strain is a subfaction of burrowing Terminids mutated from The Gloom. The strain includes Rupture Warriors, Spewers, and Chargers. First introduced in early September, these enemies were quickly disabled on September 17, 2025, after community backlash.

Arrowhead took the unusual step of temporarily removing the entire subfaction to reassess balance and enemy behavior. Now, as of October 23, 2025, the Rupture Strain is back with the 4.1.0 update, with a long list of changes.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s changed in update 4.1.0:
Rupture Strain enemies
- Updated textures for all Rupture Strain enemies for better readability
Rupture Warrior
- Movement speed when underground has been decreased
- Needs to surface more often when moving underground
- Its burrow attack is slightly slower and leaves more space to be dodged
- Smaller damage boxes when attacking from below
- Front legs armor decreased from 3 to 2
- Will prefer to emerge before attacking turrets instead of destroying them from below ground
Rupture Spewer
- Retuned the timing of how fast it starts to act from when it unburrows
Bile Spewer Variations
- Increased size of its mouth weak spot
Brood Commanders
- Slightly harder to set on fire
Warriors
- Slightly harder to set on fire
- Slight durable increase in head and body
Dragon roach
- Spawn rate decreased
- 50% lower on difficulty 5,6
- 40% lower on difficulty 7,8,9
- 33% lower on difficulty 10
- Destruction of the wings results in instant termination of the Dragon
- Wings now have their own health pool of 4000
- Increased how much damage wings take from explosion
Bile spewers
- Slightly harder to set on fire
- Larger body parts are slightly more durable
Hive Lord
- Improved performance during Hive Lord encounters.
According to design director Niklas Malmborg, “We disabled them for a reason. They were not that fun. So, let’s make them fun.“
Why These Rupture Strain and the Other Balance Changes Matter
This patch isn’t just about the Rupture Strain, according to Arrowhead, it’s “a big step forward: both in the game itself and in how we work to improve it.” In that way, Update 4.1.0 doesn’t just change the enemies; it improves nearly every aspect of gameplay.

A step in the right direction

Over 200 bugs have been fixed, weapon balance has been tightened across all classes, and we’ve also gotten quality-of-life and optimization improvements to make everything, including the performance, smoother. Arrowhead’s approach with the 4.1.0 patch suggests a studio more in tune with its player base than ever before.
By finally listening to our feedback and pausing to rework a whole faction, the devs have proven their commitment to making Helldivers 2 not just harder, but better. And so, as of October 23, 2025, the Rupture Strain has officially returned to active duty. And this time, it looks like the Helldivers are ready for them.
