What Do We Know About AJ Lee’s WWE Return After the Becky Lynch Clash?

WWE Superstar AJ Lee got a massive reception upon her WWE return after 10 years on September 5, 2025. She later teamed up with her husband, CM Punk, to defeat Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch at Wrestlepalooza. However, she has been missing from WWE since, and a new update suggests her comeback is still quite far.

AJ Lee uploaded a story on her official Instagram page wherein she announced that she will be doing a live signing for a ‘big event’ in New York. Thus, it is likely that she may want to be in top condition and may not wrestle any matches and risk injury. Thus, Lee will be away from action at least till November 15, 2025.

The Black Widow wrestled at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, 2025, so that would mean she will be missing two months on the calendar without competing. This was rather unexpected since the former three-time Divas Champion has signed a multi-year full-time schedule contract.

Owing to this, the WWE Universe expected to see AJ Lee almost every week. However, the 38-year-old has gone poof after a big spectacle. If she does remain absent till November 15, there’s little chance that she will make it to the 2025 Survivor Series on November 29.

WWE Fans Cheered for AJ Lee on This Week’s Episode of RAW

This week’s episode of WWE RAW saw Becky Lynch defend the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Maxxine Dupri. The Alpha Academy member had previously defeated The Man via a countout decision on October 6, 2025, to earn the title shot.

Dupri had the home turf advantage as the crowd of Sacramento was behind her. This made an already defeated Lynch very angry and frustrated throughout the match. The Man was pushed to the edge by the 28-year-old and was closing in on victory.

However, the heel superstar hit Dupri with her championship belt and got herself disqualified. She kept punishing the hometown wrestler further, which made the fans break into AJ Lee chants.

However, to their disappointment, The Black Widow didn’t walk into the arena for the save. Instead, Becky Lynch finally floored Maxxine Dupri with a Manhandle Slam before walking out with her title.

Doubts Cast on the Long-Term Viability of AJ Lee

The fans in Sacramento didn’t cheer for AJ Lee without reason. Notably, when the 38-year-old ended her decade-long WWE absence, she did so while beating up Becky Lynch and making her flee the arena.

AJ then picked up the Women’s Intercontinental Championship belt left behind by The Man and held it high while parading with it before the fans in Chicago. On top of it, Lee did her first promo on the WWE RAW episode that followed while wearing the title around her waist.

Following Wrestlepalooza, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio expressed his doubts about how AJ Lee would fit the WWE landscape following her return. He said that it would be tough for her since the business had changed a lot in the decade she had missed.

Meltzer also highlighted that Becky Lynch helped a lot in The Black Widow’s comeback. However, he noted that while The Man can be a crutch for Lee right now, he doesn’t see a lot of possibilities for the former three-time Divas Champion in the long run.

She may be a popular woman wrestler based on different things, but it’s going to be tough. She’s older. The entire division has evolved incredibly in 10 years… Becky Lynch really helped her through that a lot — and I thought almost enough.

But there were certain points where it was just kind of like… You know, she’s got Becky Lynch there, but long‑term? Very often, when you leave something and come back, and go back to doing what you did before, you don’t realize that the business is different. [via Wrestling World]

Right now, The Man doesn’t have a serious contender for her championship. Lyra Valkyria and Bayley have begun a new storyline to flesh out their characters, and Nikki Bella has aligned herself with Stephanie Vaquer to fight The Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. Thus, AJ has a clear path to return whenever she wants to.
