With One Piece chapter 1171 spoilers (via Reddit) out now, we got to see Loki flying for the very first time! Given that his mysterious abilities had already been speculated about since chapter 1130, this revelation was pivotal in setting the character up. Interestingly, it even drew him closer to Kaido, who could also fly using his Mythical Zoan form (Azure Dragon).
As a matter of fact, Kaido and Loki could even be related! Not exactly, but some of their parallels are hard to ignore, as we’ve explained below. However, the fact that Loki can actually fly almost solidified this comparison. But how exactly did Loki demonstrate his first flight?
How One Piece 1171 Demonstrates Loki’s First Flight
After the initial flashback in chapter 1171, we return to the present. Though not fully convinced, after hearing his backstory, Hajrudin frees Loki (with Luffy being the happiest about it). Soon after, a Draugr, one of the MMA that Killingham manifested, falls into the Underworld.
Then comes the interesting part. Loki tells Hajrudin and the others to go up first, suggesting that he can fly up there himself. In the next double-page spread, Loki removes the chains and flies off to confront the Draugr! As Loki takes flight for the first time to attack the Draugr with Ragnir, Luffy, being Luffy, stays on top of him. Why?
Because he wants to see Loki fight up close. And just like that, readers get their first clear look at Loki flying. Others follow him as well: Sanji carries Gaban and Chopper upward using his “Sky Walk”. And with this revelation, the speculation about Loki being related to Kaido only grows stronger. After all, the two have a lot more things in common.
Loki and Kaido’s Similarities Are Too Obvious to Miss

Both Loki and Kaido are big as hell. Some believe Kaido to be a giant as well, but he’s described as an “Oni” or a “beast” in the series. Still, he may have giant blood in his lineage, given his enormous build. But Loki? He’s, of course, an ancient giant, which is why the two look so similar.
In fact, there’s a hot fan theory on how Kaido could even be Loki’s half-brother and Harold’s son! Even their childhood was kind of similar.
Both Loki and Kaido used to wield a kanabo (a spiky, metal bat-like weapon) even as kids. While holding them, their personalities were just as ferocious. The two have crashed to the ground multiple times and still didn’t die, which goes to show that even their builds are as durable.

Furthermore, fans have already begun speculating about what Loki’s Devil Fruit might be, based on past hints and revelations surrounding his origin. It could be something related to the Norse dragon Nidhogg (a serpent/dragon capable of flight). If that turns out to be the case, Kaido’s Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Azure Dragon, which also allows him to fly, would fit the parallel perfectly. Wouldn’t you agree?
All previously released episodes of One Piece are currently available to watch on Crunchyroll, and you can also read the manga online ahead of the anime on Viz Media.
