5 Movies to Stream This Weekend on Netflix, HBO Max, and More (28-29 March)

Are you searching for perfect movies this weekend, but are in no mood to scroll endlessly from one platform to another? We’ve got you covered because streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, etc., have continued to expand their streaming library, and we’ve dived in to find a few gems for you.

Whether you like psychological thrillers or quiet and reflective storytelling, these recommendations cater to all. Our selection for this weekend ranges from Oscar-winning cinema to cult favorites and newer releases, so it’s time to update your watchlist!

1. The Passion of the Christ (2004)

Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ is about Jesus’ final 12 hours, focusing intensely on the way he was arrested, tried, tortured, and crucified. At the time of its release, it was one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies ever made, despite all the graphic realism and violence, which was criticized by many. As of now, its sequel is underway, and it will be among the biggest releases next year. Until that time, you can watch The Passion of the Christ this weekend, regardless of whether you’re religious or not.

In V for Vendetta, Hugo Weaving plays a masked revolutionary who wages a psychological and political war against a totalitarian government. Natalie Portman plays a young woman named Evey, whom Weaving’s character rescues and draws into his mission. There’s much to unpack in this movie, and in current times, when authorities are hell-bent on exploiting our inaction, maybe V for Vendetta could inspire you, or at least show you that there’s an alternative.

There are only three movies that have received the big 5 at the Oscars (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay), and The Silence of the Lambs is one of them. It’s a psychological thriller that focuses on Clarice Starling, an FBI trainee who seeks the counsel of Hannibal, an intelligent psychiatrist and a cannibalistic serial killer, who helps her track down another vicious killer on the loose. Everyone must watch this Anthony Hopkins starrer at least once, and if you haven’t already done that, schedule it for this weekend!

Where to watch: Prime Video

4. Dangerous Animals (2025)

In Dangerous Animals, we follow Zephyr, a surfer who’s drifting along the Australian coast and living like a nomad, but her freedom is threatened when she meets a boat captain who runs shark-diving tours. Their seemingly friendly interaction turns into something that Zephyr had never imagined, and if you’d like to conclude your week by watching something novel and thrilling,

Long before Scarlett Johansson’s incredible stint in the Avengers franchise, she starred in an indie film titled Lost in Translation. This was her breakout role, where she played Charlotte, a woman who meets Bob in Tokyo, as both experience loneliness and disconnection at different stages of their lives. If you plan to stream Lost in Translation this weekend, watch it for the mood, and not for the plot.
