Naoki Hamaguchi Expects 2026 Reveal for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

We finally have more official news for the final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently teased that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could be revealed sometime in 2026. This will be our first official look at how the story will conclude and what we can expect from the final title.

The FF7 Remake project was first announced in 2015, and it has brought the original 1997 PlayStation classic into a modern world. FF7 Remake came out in 2020, followed by Rebirth in 2024, which had some new gameplay and story twists. Hamaguchi says the team is already deep into development for the finale, so let’s hope for more news soon!

Naoki Hamaguchi Hopes Remake Part 3 Is Not “Too Far in the Future”

In an interview with Bloomberg, Hamaguchi shared that Square Enix is preparing to show the game relatively soon. The director said he expects the third entry in the remake trilogy to be revealed sometime in 2026, though he didn’t specify exactly when the announcement might happen.

He also noted that the game is in a solid state internally. Hamaguchi explained that the majority of the game has already been finished, with the development team currently focused on post, which includes optimization and polishing the experience ahead of its eventual launch.

One of the major goals for the trilogy has been to make each title feel unique in terms of gameplay, rather than being the same across all three titles. Hamaguchi said the team didn’t just want to reskin “the same game over and over again.” Instead, the plan is to keep the freshness with every entry.

One of the ways that Square Enix has managed to do this is by retaining its teams. The director revealed that the development team behind Rebirth has largely stayed intact for the final game as well, noting that around 95% of the staff who worked on the second title returned for the third.

In addition to the possible 2026 reveal, Hamaguchi also teased several new features and locations from the original that will appear in the final title. So far in the trilogy, we haven’t visited two notable locations, Rocket Town and Wutai, both of which are confirmed to return.

Rocket Town was originally where players first met Cid Highwind in the 1997 game, but the remake trilogy introduced the character earlier without visiting his hometown. Wutai is the homeland of fan-favorite character Yuffie and is expected to play an even bigger role in the upcoming title.

The Highwind airship will also be a big part of the finale. Hamaguchi hinted that flying the iconic airship will be a major part of the game. This probably means that we’ll be able to fly around the world again. We can’t help but get more and more excited as we find out new details.
