Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta All Set to Include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Warzone

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is taking a considerably different approach to its pre-release testing. In the previous entries of the series, we only had access to competitive multiplayer in the beta. This time around, Activision and Infinity Ward are opening up portions of all three major parts of the game in the upcoming beta test: campaign, multiplayer, and Call of Duty: Warzone.

The biggest surprise this time around is that we’ll get to experience a single-player mission. The campaign mission, “Entrenched,” will be available during both beta periods, giving us the chance to experience part of Modern Warfare 4’s story before the game’s October launch. The second weekend will include Warzone, including the new Zodiac Resurgence map. Here are all the details.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Dates and Campaign Mission Details

The first Modern Warfare 4 beta will run from August 21 to August 25 for players who pre-ordered the game. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Battle.net, and Xbox on PC.

One of the biggest additions is “Entrenched,” an exclusive single-player campaign mission. Activision usually doesn’t include any campaign content with the pre-release multiplayer tests, making this a notable change for the franchise. Players will therefore be able to experience a portion of Modern Warfare 4’s story more than two months before the game’s October 23 release.

The first weekend will also feature six multiplayer maps, including Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, Lotus, and Kill Block. We’re also getting several multiplayer modes during the test, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, 10v10, 3v3, Inflation, and Mobility Course.

The second beta period begins on August 28 and runs through September 1, opening access to everyone on the supported platforms. Nintendo Switch 2 players will also get their first opportunity to participate during this weekend.

Entrenched will remain playable during the open beta, but the multiplayer map lineup will change. The second weekend will also include more multiplayer and Ground War content, including the large-scale 32v32 Ground War mode.

As we mentioned, the second test period begins on August 28 and runs through September 1. Unlike the first weekend, this is an open beta, meaning players do not need to have pre-ordered Modern Warfare 4 to participate.

We will still have the campaign and multiplayer content from the first test while also including Warzone. Most notably, we will get our first chance to play the new Zodiac Resurgence map.

The open beta will also introduce additional multiplayer content, including 32v32 Ground War, as well as changes to the available map and mode lineup. For example, the Lithium map is set to replace Lotus during the second weekend.

Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also get their first opportunity to try Modern Warfare 4 during this open beta. The console is included alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and Battle.net.

The inclusion of Warzone is big, because this is the first time a Call of Duty beta has combined campaign, traditional multiplayer, and Warzone content within the same testing period. Beyond Zodiac Resurgence, Activision has also confirmed that another large-scale Warzone battle royale map is in development.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
