Night City has another doomed crew ready to run straight into the fire. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is bringing Studio TRIGGER back to the neon-soaked world of Cyberpunk 2077. But this is not David Martinez’s story continued from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Instead, Part 2 is a 10-episode standalone anime that introduces a new cast and a revenge-driven mystery. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Trailer Reveals a Brutal New Story
The new trailer immediately establishes a different flavor of Night City. There is still explosive gunplay, cybernetic augmentation, and TRIGGER’s frantic animation, but Edgerunners 2 appears more interested in the consequences behind the violence. The story follows former edgerunner Weak Kingsley and nomad netrunner D, whose pursuit of revenge leads toward dangerous corporate secrets.
The footage also introduces Roman, a filmmaker obsessed with documenting reality, and Talia, a fiercely independent woman shaped by Maelstrom’s violent culture. The visual language is deliberately raw, with prominent black silhouettes, aggressive lighting and effects that director Kai Ikarashi says draw from the spirit of 1990s anime.
The biggest connection to the original is therefore Night City itself. David’s story is over, but the city’s machinery of exploitation, ambition and violence remains. Anything beyond those established connections, including guesses about returning characters, should still be treated as speculation.

The series contains 10 episodes and is produced through the continued collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and Studio TRIGGER. Kai Ikarashi directs, while Ichigo Kanno handles character design, Masahiko Otsuka works on the screenplay, and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer, and producer.
The original Edgerunners became a major success for both companies, even winning Anime of the Year at the 2023 7th annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The sequel is now attempting to capture that lightning without simply recreating David and Lucy’s tragedy.
