“Some companies are going to tank”: We Got Impending Financial Doom Before GTA 6, Multiple Gaming Companies May be Now Under the Sole Mercy of Rockstar

The ripple effects of a delay in the release of GTA 6 will not be limited to just Rockstar Games but will have a deeper impact on the gaming industry as a whole, including some of the other developers as well, who all are waiting for a release window for their games since they do not want to clash with GTA 6.

GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games of this decade; it has been years in the making and has already been postponed once. There is so much hype behind it that other video game companies are scared even to attempt to release their games during the same period.

Rockstar can direct the flow of a lot of games

Rockstar currently has the power to direct the flow of a lot of games, and there is very little that the other companies can do about it. There has still not been any update regarding GTA 6’s release, but it is anticipated that the game will come out somewhere around October/November.

There is also a high chance that it gets delayed again. Until and unless Rockstar gives a clear picture about the release window, other companies only await impending financial doom, since nothing can be done about it.

No developer is dim enough to release a game alongside GTA 6, largely due to the game’s appeal and the franchise’s reputation for success. Similarly, Borderlands 4, a game by Take-Two, is scheduled for a September release, so it is highly unlikely that GTA 6 will have the same release window. During a talk at GDC, senior gaming consultant Ben Porter from Newzoo said:

You either have to be able to launch into that big black hole that’s been left open now, or you have to extend your run rate by an additional six months—I’m certain some companies are going to tank as a result of that, right?

Some companies will not be able to sustain themselves during these uncertain times, and their fate now lies in the hands of Rockstar. Without actively doing anything, Rockstar seems to be holding a lot of cards.

There needs to be better communication about GTA 6

Rockstar tends to stay shut regarding its games. It does not release statements or share updates and has never done so. However, things are different now, and a lot of other companies are getting affected by its silence.

It is irresponsible of it to stay shut even after realizing how important it is for a lot of other companies to know when GTA 6 will be released. We sure will get GTA 6; the game is bound to release, but at what cost?

After realizing the number of games Rockstar might have stepped on and the companies it might have crushed, will the experience of playing GTA 6 still be the same? Will you still enjoy playing it? Let us know in the comments below.
