WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase: Women’s Division Today is Better Because “They put on a better show and better matches than the guys”

WWE’s women’s division has always been criticized, and a significant percentage of wrestling enthusiasts feel that women’s wrestling is not as entertaining as men’s. Much of this can be agreed upon, as World Wrestling Entertainment is on The Road to WrestleMania 41, with several storylines that fans are heavily invested in.
At the same time, when we look at the women’s section, things seem to lack the same build-up and big moments that will make fans look forward to their match. Thus, making fans hold a steadfast belief that women’s wrestling can never catch up to the fraction of greatness that the men’s division has achieved in the last decade.
However, Ted DiBiase does not agree with the stans, stating how the female wrestlers of today are staging performances that redeem the division and are giving hope for a brighter future.
Ted DiBiase prefers the WWE women’s division over the men’s
Since the 80s, most women in the WWE have not been given the same limelight as their male peers. The names were limited, with Miss Elizabeth being the most popular figure in the women’s locker room. Later, when The Attitude Era kicked off, the women’s section was given a much more prominent role, but not for their in-ring skills; they were used to attract the male audience and were showcased more provocatively.
The situation appeared to look promising during the mid-2010s when the “Women’s Evolution” took place, led by names like Paige, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair shook up the division and main event WrestleMania 35. Despite the bright future, things have become shaky in recent times, where many feel that women’s matches are more like ‘fillers.’
However, to everyone’s surprise, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase tends to have a contrasting opinion about the so-called ‘shaky’ situation of women’s wrestling.
Appearing as a guest on For the Love of Wrestling via Monopoly Events, The Million Dollar Man praised the women’s division for having “better matches than the guys.” He said,
My issue with today’s wrestling is if I watch the girls’ division of WWE, they put on a better show and better matches than the guys.
DiBiase praised Fit Finlay, the veteran wrestler, for coaching and mentoring the division, elevating the in-ring performances of the talents, giving them the much-needed competitive edge, and actively contributing to the division’s healthy growth. He added,
And I can tell you why, Fit Finlay is the guy who’s their coach, he’s the guy who’s mentoring them. I don’t know who’s running the men’s division, but they might need to be shot.
The Hall of Famer’s comments about women’s wrestling are justifiable; after all, under Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s rightful vision, the women’s locker room is playing a much more revitalizing role than what fans have witnessed in the past.
Triple H’s rejuvenated approach finally fixed women’s wrestling
When Triple H took over WWE in 2022, fans had high hopes for him, believing that his innovative vision and understanding of “what’s best for business” would take the company to new heights. For the most part, he did as he ensured that the locker room had a better standard of living, with his best friend, Shawn Michaels, guiding the talents of tomorrow.
However, the Cerebral Assasin found himself at the center of criticism for some of his managerial decisions, one being his poor handling of the women’s roster. The fans witnessed fewer women’s matches being allotted each week on the RAW and SmackDown segments. Thus, creating a ‘filler’ storyline that was difficult to overlook.
Adhering to the criticism, he actively committed himself to revitalizing the women’s division, promoting NXT talents like Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Tiffany Straton, Roxanne Perez, and so many more to the main division. Ripley’s growth as the Mami of WWE and her feud with The Judgement Day has been significant in the company’s growth. Additionally, weaving a storyline that connects the two divisions makes it more interesting to watch.
With WrestleMania 41 around the corner, new emotionally invested storylines have emerged between Jade Cargill and Naomi, where the latter attacked Cargill in November 2024. Additionally, the heat for the Women’s Champion is rising as well, as Ripley seeks attention by attacking Bianca Belair and Iyo Sky as they are about to sign their contract for the title match being held at the Show of Shows.
This openness to new talent and fresh rivalries proves DiBiase was right about the division’s success and making it all the more appealing.
WrestleMania 41 will be a two-night event taking place on Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, 2025.
